Logistics: St. John to the Baths

Post by News of St. John »

Hi everyone-

My husband really wants to go to the Baths. The Sunday/Thursday ferry will not work for us. Is there a relatively easy way to get there on other days? I don't want to be stuck on a ferry all day. Is it possible to take the ferry from St. John to Tortola, spend some time there, then hop on a ferry from Tortola to Virgin Gorda? And then do the same in reverse? Would this be too much of a pain?

As an alternate, other than Dolphin, are there any other water taxi options? Dolphin seemed outrageous ... might as well rent another charter.

I prefer not to do a group trip thing because I like to explore on my own time. I thought about gettting Capt. John to take us (I am already taking a trip with him on another day) but he no longer goes to VG.

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

A bit of tough love, but you'll be happier if you wait for another trip if the ferry does not work for you. The Baths are fun, but bloody crowded. The only reasonable priced approach is a direct ferry. Getting from STJ to VG and back via Tortola is a bloody pain and you'll spend the day in transit through the least exciting parts of Tortola - likely having to take a taxi from West to Road Town and back to get the VG ferry.

Another approach that would be faster is a charter flight through St. Thomas...

Our solution was to spend a week in VG for our next trip. Looking forward to it.
