I have to say I find it amazing and I guess brave that so many of you can stay to take a picture. One look at that shark and the Olympic committee would be signing me up for the next games because my swimming speed would be record breaking!

My guess is that it's a lemon shark, but t's hard to see. I think you made a good job taking the photo, considering the fast swimmng shark.

Cool picture Becky. That must have been interesting to watch.

And regarding swimmng and splashing like crazy is probably not the smartest if you encounter a shark and get scared. I know it's not easy, but slowly removing away from it Is much better.

I have a fear of bullsharks, but have luckliy only seen one swimmng away while scuba diving in Playa del Carmen. Never seen one in the BVI/USVI. In one dive outside Virgin Gorda we saw six nurse sharks. That was cool. I like seeing sharks when I dive, but are not as keen seing them while snorkeling.

Maggy you are so right!

There's NO WAY I'd be splashing like a flapping fish advertising "COME EAT ME!" LOL

Slow, calm, & steady wins the race! Just hope I can practice what I preach...if I'm ever in the situation.

Wow.... okay, enough of this. LOL
I'm a seasoned snorkeler leaving on Monday for St. John with 7 other women (6 who have never been to the Caribbean). They are excited about snorkeling for their first time. It's a damn good thing they do not read this site!

I obviously am not sharing this with them... .but I must admit, it will be on my mind next week while escorting 6 virgin snorkelers around St. John.

@Hawksnestbay - that was NASTY! LOL
