Another Passport Question

Post by BillVT »

Has anyone tried using a US passport card instead of their full passport for boarding aircraft and leaving STJ/STT? They are much easier to carry around. When I renewed this year I paid a little more and got one. Since we are only 25 miles from the Canadian border it is handy for us to have. I heard that they cannot be used to board aircraft and can only be used for ground travel. Why?, I have no idea.

Last year I carried both. I didn't try using the passport card. We did use the regular passports when we flew to and from STT.

I do know though if you go to the BVIs via a private charter, you can use your card, you do not need your passport, but you may want to double check that one.

According to the U.S. Customs web site, passport cards MAY NOT be used for boarding airplanes

Yes, but since you do NOT need a passport to travel between the VI and the US mainland, any official photo ID would be valid.
