I totally "get it"!!!

Post by Bonny in CA »

Well, one week ago today we flew home from St. John, and now I understand why you all keep going back to the same island instead of going to different places!!
St. John is heaven on earth! I loved it, loved it, loved it!!
We splurged on a pricey villa for our 25th anniversary this time. Now I'm checking out the Concordia Eco-Tents, so we can go back sooner and stay longer!

Here's a link to our anniversary pictures (by Sage Parker @ Crown Photography) at Trunk Bay if you're interested.

I just love your enthusiasm for the little island we all love so much. Some people go and just don't get it and never return. It's nice to know that others love it and want to return again. Having been to almost every Caribbean island I know there's no place like St. John. Welcome to our addiction!! And happy 25th anniversary!

Great photos! concordia is wonderful-- you will love it there-- and there are some less expensive places to rent as well -- if you can do without certain amenities--
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

Thank you all!! And for your votes on the pictures. I haven't been able to decide which ones to blow up and frame. I'll take a look at the ones you've mentioned.

I watched a show on the travel channel Friday, "Caribbean Weekend"... St. Martin, and St. Lucia & Cancun. Lord, I don't ever want to go to those places! One of them looked like they had dropped Las Vegas onto an island! Another had ATV rides through the rain forest! I was astounded at the ways you can ruin a perfectly good island. And in the end I was glad that show didn't mention St. John, I wouldn't want too many people discovering it!!

As for going back... it could take a year... But if I can go every year I'll be a happy camper.

There are definitely amenities we can live without. We spent very little time at the villa during our waking hours, never used the pool at all, and the hot tub only a few times pre-dawn.

So, it comes down to a shower and a comfortable bed!! Maybe a fridge too...

Congrats on your 25 years and congrats on finding your paradise! for me, photo #50 is absolutely breathtaking!
Were the no-see-ums biting? I am scared to stay that late on any StJ beach!

I feel so lucky to have discovered St John, cause for me, it is my happy place. When we get to that one 'special beach' (secret), I weep every time, the sheer beauty touches my soul so deeply, it is difficult to express in words. I am verklempt by just the thought of that emotion. Welcome to the forum family and our addiction!

Yes, that's what I posted on FB from the island... "I've found my happy place in the world!" Now I know where I really belong!

Another friend was shocked when I told her it's better than Disneyland! : ) We share a love of Disneyland.
But if I had to choose, I'd rather go to St. John!

We got eaten up by bugs every morning and every night! It took me a few days to start spraying myself down with Off. (I didn't want to smell like bug spray. I got over that!) I looked like I had chicken pox by the time we got home! Bugs didn't seem to care if I was on a beach or at a bar, they found me. Also I was up before sunrise every day there, which gave them another opportunity to dine on me.

But I'm still trying to figure out how soon I can get back there, or even.... maybe... semi-retire there? I'm hoping, and he's not saying no...
