Shutterfly Photo Books - changes and promo

Post by jmq »

Notable for those who might be interested that there are new formatting options available when creating your photobook that also includes a "customize page" function that is real handy to re-size photos and move/re-position photos around on a page. Very useful if you have cropped some images to non-standard sizes such as square, or shot some photos in a widescreen ratio etc. Real pleased with the results from a 12x12 hardcover I made recently.

They also have a 40% off promo going now with code BOOK40

I recently did a photo book of our first trip to STJ. This is something I have never done and I was very pleased. It was the small one but great to show our family and friend a small preview of STJ. Hope to get back real soon. I think I had the 40 percent off code or something like that.

For those of you with experience working with Shutterfly, do you find it runs slow? I have never used the site before and am attempting to make a book and it is soooo slow! I am wondering if I am asking it to do too much--what's the largest book folks have made using this site? What I am working on is around 80 pages.

It's not my connection, which is very fast and working fine with other sites. It wasn't the photo upload either, that went quickly. It's attempting to move things around on the pages and adding captions that is dragging.

This has nothing to do with the photo books but I was going to do my Xmas Photo Cards on Shutterfly but it would have been twice as much money even with the Coupon Codes. I ended up using mypublisher.com which a friend on FB had recommended. I know they do photo books also.

Becky - on shutterfly I had the opposite - my photos took an extra long time to upload but when editing the book it didnt have seem to have much lag time when resizing or moving photos around a bit, and I dont have the fastest PC and was using DSL, but, am pretty meticulous about cleaning up internet detritus, and found that using the Chrome browser makes everything work better than the explorer browser.

Maybe it is the size of the book - is there a max? My Italy book was 35 pages. Found the share code if you want to take a look...

Re mypublisher...I have used them a couple times for books with good results. At one time they had better print quality than Shutterfly, but shutterfly has gotten much better. Especially like the really wide size book you can do with mypub. On Shutterfly the largest book format was 12x12, wish they had larger.

I don't think the book is above their limit because it is acknowledging how many pages it is and how much it will cost to order it. I didn't even think to try switching browsers. That's a good idea, why I still have explorer as my default is beyond me!

Thanks for sharing your book. It's really nice. I like how you used your photos as the background on some of the pages.
