Beach at night?

One of the things I've loved to do is to visit a beach at night. (moonlight, the best) I've read lots of trip reports and posts talking about their day at the beach, but none about night times at the beach. Does anyone else enjoy the beach at night?

I live on the NH Seacoast and Love the beach at night here. On St.John the No-seeums come out at dusk(or after a rain)on the beach and take all the enjoyment out of it. Last year we met a couple who had been at Maho at the end of the day. They were just getting ready to leave and Dolphins showed up. They stayed to watch the Dolphins but got bit real bad. The Husband looked like he had the measles and he was considering a trip to the health clinic.

We stayed at Cinnamon our last trip...and it was wonderful to wake up and walk right out on the beach..no getting in the car to get there... or packing up...just walk out on the beach....but the best thing...was walking out on the beach at night...there was very few people on the beach...and it was a cpl nights before a full moon so it was very bright...we loved it.. hopefully will do it again when we go back..we just sprayed bug spray and we were fine...Here is a pic we took our last trip..

When we stayed at Caneel for our honeymoon, we swam almost every night. I don't remember getting bit but that was a number of years ago.

Tried both Maho & Hawksnest on different trips; lots of biting little friends...
We didn't plan things out well,just went on a whim,so no bugspray...duh.
Get into the water quickly,enjoy yourselves,and when you leave the beach, stay covered,so's not to be eaten alive by the critters.
I don't have a problem with bug-bites; they just don't like me. My Sweetheart gets devoured,though.
Can't wait to try it again!

We are staying at Lovango on our next trip, and the beach at night is one of the top reasons, among many.

We stay in a tent at Cinnamon Bay Campground and usually get a site with a minute or less walk to the beautiful beach. By moonlight it is a whole new world there and we love it. The park rangers offer an astronomy lesson and then take us down to the beach to find the constellations we were taught. That's great, too.

Is it Cinnamon or Hawksnest that has the glow worms that come out during a full moon? Would really like to check that out sometime...

we did the most amazing night snorkel on our trip in October and if Augie every gets to finish our trip report you will see some of the things that we were excited about!!we were at Majo- easy entry, snorkeled Majo many times during day so knew layout well. it was so wonderful!!! No seeums didn't bother us in the water but getting out was a bear (especially for me as I am a bug magnet. was it is worth it ? you bet!! will do it again for sure in June!!!

Thanks Rachelle and Joe..our last trip was the first time we had been on the beach at night while on St John..

We didnt go in the water...Hubby would...but..Im waaay to chicken...I wanna see whats out there coming at me..just in case..ya know...just sayin"

we used small LED underwater flashlights and could see pretty well-got some beautiful pictures. It's a little eery but you stay a little closer to your buddy and it's soooo amazing to see the colors just pop as well as saying "hi" to all the sleepy heads that are awake when we are in during the day!

I just went online to Amazon, and the underwater flaslights for diving are expensive. Any suggestions for a moderately priced light that will work underwater and not break the bank? I like the idea of trying a night snorkle....since we are staying on the beach, I want to take advantabe of every opportunity!

Hey Tom-
our were UK Brand small LED around $40 but as much time as we try to spend in the water - it was worth it. I think you may be able to rent them on island from some of the local dive shops. Check with Low Key or Crabby's or Cruz bay watersports. (or the campgrounds- I know I read it somewhere!)) It was a bucket list moment for sure!!!! and I cannot wait to do it in June with my 18 and 20 year old!!
