Do you paddleboard?

Post by P-600 »

I reserved a couple of paddleboards from Arawak Expeditions for our next trip. We have never done it before but it looks easy enough. Have any of you done this before? Any tips?
Looking forward to paddling across Maho :)

It seems to be the big thing on island. We saw quite a few when we were there a couple of weeks ago.

Didn't try it, so no tips. Have fun!

We did a SUP lesson in Maui 2 years ago. little bit harder than it looks, my wife and 11 year old daughter could just hop on it and go. but I'm a bigger guy 6'3 240, and struggled with keeping my balance on it at first ( and we ski and snowboard) the key is to keep moving. once you get going it's easier to stay upright. Maho would be a perfect place to learn. Have fun.

Paddleboard or sup? Stand-up is a great core workout. Bring your snorkle gear!
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Yes, I'm talking about the stand up paddleboards. 2muchsnow- my husband is about the same size as you so I'll warn him in advance! I've seen people on their SUP's with dogs on the front! That is very cool!

You'll have a blast. Couldn't thing of a better spot than Maho. Some folks had some out there when were there first of the month

On maui, we were able to go back and borrow boards later during the trip for a couple of hours. My wife and daughter both took turns putting our littlest (age 4) on the board and paddling him around the shallows. He loved it.

Not sure it you have access to them, or when your trip is, but those bosu exercise balls give a similar balance workout for some pre-trip training. They have them at my gym and I've seen them around. They look like swiss ball that has been chopped in half. Flat on one side and curved exercise ball on the other. Turn it flat side up then step on it.

Have fun.

LOVE SUP and plan to do it next time we're there for sure! Glad to know we can rent them. My hubby had the same issues on Maui, but his balance is not the greatest. I found it pretty easy. Bosu is a great idea to train- in fact our instructor in Maui put us on Bosu balls for about an hour before we even got in the water!
