Unsinkable Rachel Brown...
Unsinkable Rachel Brown...
Just thought I'd put it out there that Nov. 15 is Rachel's 70th birthdayand she's as spry as ever slinging those suitcases into her vehicle. When we were there 2 weeks ago she said she's finally starting to smile again after the death of her brother last year. Me and "my peeps" brought another smile to her face when we handed her a birthday card and a gift -- got her the new Scotty McCreery CD because she likes country music. She couldn't BELIEVE that anyone would remember her birthday! (It's the same day as one of our travelling companions so it was pretty easy.) By the time we made our return trip to the airport a week later she had many of the songs memorized so I know she liked it. Her smiling face is one of my favorite things to see when I get off the plane so I'm very happy that she's smiling again!!!

Really wish I had her address as I'd like to do something special for her on the 15th. I guess putting an address on the forum might be too personal if anyone has it. I have her phone number in my phone for the four years that she has picked us up in STT.
She did the nicest thing for me last summer, totally unexpected. I mentioned when she picked us up that I wanted a Virgin Islands flag to fly at home. When she picked us up at Charlotte Amalie on the way back, she went with us to a few places downtown to look for one, we couldn't find one. She dropped us off for lunch and shopping. When she picked us back up to go to the airport, she had my flag and wouldn't let me pay her for it. If anyone thinks there aren't good souls out there, Rachel is the perfect example. Beautiful lady...her sweetness makes me so happy to be around her.

Jayseadee - Rachel says that she doesn't celebrate her birthday, but that doesn't mean that you can't, right? I'm sure that just wishing her a happy birthday or giving her a card will be another surprise for her.
Greyhoundmom - If you're quick maybe Jayseadee would be willing to add a greeting from you too!

I called her and sang Happy Birthday in my best Barry White impression. made her laugh. She told me that she's wearing her bright red dress, makeup and jewelry today. She's strutting her stuff and enjoying herself today. Sounded like she has a Suburban full of STJ visitors. Soonthebeach, she's that great of a person. Your kids will love her and so will you.
