Asolare or Zozo's?

Post by Need2GetAway »

We are celebrating our 30th anniversary in February on St. John and would like to do a special meal (although all our meals on St. John are special!).

Last year we ate at Zozo's and it was wonderful, but this year we thought we'd try Asolare. I have since seen someone describe Asolare as having "interesting food" which scared me a little bit.

Where would you do your one fancy meal?

Thanks.

I second ZoZos also, we make a point of having a meal there every year, and have not been disappointed and we also love the view, as it is just the two of us this year we are going to try to reserve at the bar for dinner around sunset, have always wanted to try this but usually have a larger group. We have never tried Asolare but have been curious, view also looks great.

Zozo's. Our single worst food experience on island, ever, was at asolare. It had more to do with the service than the food. I wouldn't trust them with a special event, let alone a regular meal.

We have been to Asolare on our last two trips. We had wonderful meals both times. We just love the Moonbow Martini's. Location is great and the view is awesome.

Most folks on this forum will tell you Zozo's. It is a nice restaurant although not the best Italian on the island. If you eat there, choose to eat at the bar where you can get a view. Over the last nine years, we've eaten at Asolare about 10 times. It has been though a couple owners. We have always had an amazing meal. In June, it was just fabulous. Would recommend it for a special dinner any time.

Both are excellent with great views, but I'd say ZoZo's - hands down. We ate at Asolare Thursday and at ZoZo's last night (and Monday), and the menu at ZoZo's has much more broad appeal. The food at both restaurants is extremely good. But there was only one item on the menu at Asolare that appealed to me (Hanger steak with purple potatoes and wasabi. I don't eat seafood, but even those that do had only a couple of choices. One was sturgeon, which we thought was an odd fish to offer on a limited menu. The waitress described it as an "acquired taste." I also always feel that the portion sizes are on the small side at Asolare. That's not the case at ZoZo's. Happy 30th and enjoy your celebration wherever you go!

One final thought... we had a meal prepared in the villa this year by Ted's Supper Club. It was spectacular!!
