Need updated jeep rental agency info--who has parking??

Post by St. John Lover »

Hi all you lovely helpful people,

I know things change, even on St. John. I usually rent our cars through Varlack's or Penn's because I know they offer parking and are nice to deal with. St. John Car Rental offers parkings as well I believe but who else does that's close to the ferry? (I'm the one always running with my bags to the ferry at the last minute when I have to go home :-(; who want's to leave sooner than they have to?)

Your help is much appreciated as I need to book a car pretty soon (like yesterday).

Thanks!

We've rented from Courtesy several times. They offer evening parking and have plenty of space, but are a few blocks from most restaurants.

Since one member of our party isn't completly ambulatory, we're going to rent from St. John Car Rental in January. They also offer evening parking, but on a space-available basis.

We use Suttons...his parking spaces are limited...but you cant beat the location...we have also used Bougainvillea (stjohnjeeps.com) as they allow for a shorter term rental...but they are up the hill from the round about...parking there as well..if you dont mind the walk....:)

We rented from Penn's for many years and then switched to SJCR. Yes, SJCR has parking but, as was mentioned, it's on a first come basis. After having to pay for parking (at Sliman's lot) way too many times because there was no room at SJCR, we are going back to Penn's. They are very nice to deal with and we've never had a problem parking either during the day or the evening. Hope this helps.

The new parking lot made it very easy to park in Cruz Bay. The one time we had a lot of things to carry, my hubby (the driver) dropped the 3 passengers off with all our stuff near St John Spice where we were meeting friends with a boat and he took the car to the parking lot and met us over there within ten minutes.

I'll give another nod to Sutton's. We've rented from them on both of our trips, and plan to use them again this summer. The parking is limited, and his driveway is anything but easy to negotiate, but the convenience is great. We've experienced excellent service from their whole family on our trips, and while I'm sure all the other places are great, I can't bring myself to switch.

I will say this about the parking, though:
1. don't forget to leave your keys under the mat and the jeep unlocked with the windows up
2. while you are definitely allowed and probably even expected to use the lot, it is the courteous thing to do to poke your head in the door and say hello and even ask if it's ok to park for XXX amount of time.

We have used Penns for the past 14 years and have never had a problem that wasnt't addressed immediately. Always have found parking in their in town lot, which for us is a HUGE plus, granted they are a little more expensive than others but it is well worth it to us, we will be using them once again on our trip in the end of January

Not sure about Cool Breeze . . . we've never rented from them.

I suggest giving them a call.

Cool Breeze does have very limited parking, at least we were allowed to use their lot the one time we rented from them. It was at night however and they were closing for the evening. They do not have a lot of extra space in their lot.
I would not however recommend Cool Breeze for a vehicle rental. There are more important things to consider than parking.
