New post on our building blog ....

Post by Pia »

I used to call it our remodel blog but it has turned into a rebuild/new build - I think at times it would have been easier to knock it down (well parts of it we almost have) and start from scratch :)

As I received a few PM's asking when there would be an update I thought I would post that I have updated on the forum for all to see :)

Here is the link for those of you who are not familiar with our blog....

I understand what you've been going through as we've just finished Phase Two of our remodel/rebuild. Phase 1 was the complete remodel of the outside including roof, new windows and doors and new siding. Phase 2 was the entire first floor including new garage cement floor and the entire driveway. Inside we went down the the studs in every room of the first floor and completely rebuilt. We didn't do it ourselves. We had contractors doing the work so my hat's off to you and Saint Les. Start to finish Phase 1 and 2 took 14 months. We are taking a break before we start Phase 3 - the second floor.

Thanks mnfun2bme and Diana2 :)

I hear you with the "step by step" but sometimes I want it to be "leaps and bounds" :)

I've been reading your blog for a while, your post gave me the motivation to write and complement (amazement at Les' work). the task you've undertaken. Les can always give up his day job as a realtor and become a construction foreman. 8)

I continue to be hugely impressed with you and Les and all your DIY capabilities. Does Les have an engineering / building background? (Or do you, in addition to being a world famous dancer?)

It seems that to live on STJ it is a huge help to know how to fix and build things. (On our first trip we talked a bit with the villa owner, who did a lot of his own work on the building.)

Thanks so much for leaving a comment shoemak38 I do appreciate it when people take the time :)

No chicagoans, unfortunately no engineering background for me just one in dance and Les is self taught with lots of research, observation and common sense (his words :) ) involved - I think it started one summer as a child (around 9 years old) when he spent every moment of his summer vacation watching a construction crew build a house next to where he was living - I too am amazed at his talent :)

Your home in paradise will be so amazing, once you can relax. Well worth it!
