Trip Report - 10/8 - the journey there
10/8 - We arrived at the airport 1-1/2 hours before our flight and went to the American terminal for coach and saw a ton of people and no kiosks. Huh? We waited and waited but the line barely budged. There were no agents to ask. After 15 minutes, someone told us the kiosks were in the next room...the room marked First and Business class. Lovely. We got to the kiosk no problem but we were checking 1 bag. There’s a separate line for that! Nice long one too! There were no agents around to assist. We finally got to the counter and we were told that we missed the baggage cut-off by 5 minutes. We missed the flight. Back to ticketing we went. An hour later, we were booked on the redeye going thru JFK. Joy. We checked our bag and went back home.
Time to make phone calls...called Ronnie at Crystal Palace to cancel the reservation (and our airport pick up); called Dependable car rental to let them know to pick us up at the airport and not the Crystal Palace; called the villa agency to tell them that we would be catching a much later ferry; and finally called David our cat sitter to let him know not to come that night. Phew! We were so bummed out that we could not start our vacation at the Crystal Palace. Hanging out with Ronnie on the balcony watching the cruise ships depart is a great way to get into vacation mode. The location on St. Thomas couldn't be better.
At 8:42, we headed back to the airport. No bag to check but we weren't taking a chance with missing another flight! A mile from the house the car starts sputtering. Nnnnooooooo!!! Steve started cursing and hitting the steering wheel as I dove for my cell phone. We have friends that live only a mile away from where we were at. We dropped off the car and they drove us to the airport. Smooth sailing from here, right?! Please?! To put it mildly, we are READY FOR VACATION!
