Now everybody in NJ knows that Philly fans have been known to throw their team under the bus at the drop of a hat, but this is very revealing (and entertaining!) to those of us not in Red Sox Nation.

PS I thought that STL bullpen would blow up/would get burned out by La Russa, but then realized they would benefit from the days off built into the playoffs and WS, so that should continue to be a great strength for them.

This whole thing is being completely blown out of proportion by Globe reporter Dan Shaughnessy, who hates the Red Sox, and Dennis and Callahan, blowhard AM radio hosts. Beer and chicken were not the cause of the implosion. But beer and chicken make for entertaining newspaper headlines and easy radio call-in fodder.

OK so its the sports radio shouters, the haters, and pot stirrers creating all the noise and drama and drowning out the loyalists in the majority.
Gotta sell papers and up those radio ratings!

There is still time for that. This has been an up and down year for my team. There has not been an extended period where they dominated their opponents. The pitching, hitting and defense has been up and down all season. Our best hope is that our hot streak will outlast the Ranger's. The one advantage that we have this year is that the roster rules have changed for this post-season. LaRussa has always brought 13 pitchers into the post season leaving us with a weak bench. This year teams are able to set a new roster for each series. I think this has helped Tony handle his bench. I was really surprised that we took the NCLS in 6 games. This Cardinal team has managed to take every challenge down to the wire. I will be surprised if the series goes less than 7 games. Oh btw, a big thank you to Cecil Fielder for his homerun in the All Star game for giving us home field advantage.

I am a diehard Philly fan and since the Cardinals beat us, I'm rooting for them.

Like a lot of the noise in the Post (and other Murdoch media), it turns out this headline doesnt stand up well to actual fact checking, but that "more hits than A-Rod" line is priceless

, and yes, helped sell some papers.

That seemed to be Cardinals strategy this season. Except for the pennant series which ended in 6 games, every step was taken to it's final game. That includes the regular season. They took won every series in the post season by winning the last two games played. They played in four win-or-be-eliminated games this season. They were down to their final strike facing the end of their season at least three times during the post season or perhaps that includes the last game of the regular season. I cannot tell you how many times I heard Mike Shannon say that this might be the last at bat for Albert in a cardinal uniform.

They were the team that were like sand fleas. They just wouldn't go away.

The pool heater is off, my carbon footprint has been reduced and the pool is closed for the season. The boys of summer are done for this year.

What a season it's been.
