Jost Van Dyke day trip question
I left a post on the B.V.I. forum but since the question contains the words St. John I thought it would be appropriate here also.
We will be on St. John in early December. We would like to take the Ferry to Jost for the day, and go to Foxy's, Ivans and the Soggy Dollar. Is this to busy? If not, what would be the best way to stop at all three?

Hi Daddy.
We took the ferry and we took a VERY short ride over to the Soggy Dollar and spent the day. The reason we did that is we met some great people and just hung out and people watched.
But....it's very easy to get back to Foxy's. There's always cabs behind the Soggy Dollar that will take you back and forth over the mountain.
It's a great day...have fun!

"Paradise...it's a state of mine"
We took the ferry a couple of years ago... this was my take... you'll have a great time.
"We took the ferry from St John to Jost that arrives in Great Harbor, on a Sunday. After spending some time there, including Foxy's, we returned to the ferry dock and took a cab to over the hill to Ivan's (could have gone directly to the Soggy). There is a fun little path along the beach from Ivan's to the Soggy Dollar... fun just remembering! Anyway, cabs were very available in Great Harbor and can be called for a set pickup/return time. We used Bun's cab - $5 per person, each way, anywhere you want to go - I think. Walking could be done; I am not sure how long it would take.

Some have not enjoyed the fun little path... http://virgin-islands-on-line.com/forum ... path+ivans

... no longer a stranger to paradise
Very doable as Connie and lprof have mentioned...you'll want to check the ferry schedule to make sure you know when it's running. In December it may run more often, but in the summer, it's typically Friday, Saturday, Sunday only.
When it does run, it typically leaves the Nation Park Dock (look for the blue tent and trailer to buy tickets and embark across from Morgan's Mango) around 8:30am and gets to Jost around 9 or 9:30 depending on where you clear customs (sometimes you clear on Tortola). There will likely be cabs waiting on the ferry on Jost to take you anywhere you want to go.
The ferry back leaves around 3:30, though you'll want to confirm that for sure as it seems to be the one thing in the VI that does leave exactly when it says it will. And if you miss it, that's it until the next morning. Bottom line, you'll have about 5 good hours on the island.
And you most likely won't spend much time at Ivan's. Don't get me wrong, his open bar is fun if there are people around and it's worth checking out his cabins in case you'd ever want to do an overnight on Jost, but the majority of the fun and frivolity is over at Soggy's.
If I were you, I'd get off the ferry and walk down the long strip in Great Harbour possibly stopping at some of the T-shirt shops and other bars along the way to Foxy's. Have an early lunch at Foxy's and then cab it over to Ivan's. Have a quick walk around and then head over to Soggy's...oh and ask your cab driver to pick you up from the backside of Soggy's around 2:45 or 3pm...at least 30 minutes before the ferry leaves.
Hope that helps and have fun.

It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
