attire question
attire question
I followed the suggestion that someone made about going to Skinny Legs site and reading their suggestions. They mentioned not wearing bathing suits in Cruz Bay. I agree that Bathing suits would not be in good taste.
I have one piece suits and tankini's. The top of the suits look like tank tops or cami's. I was thinking of wearing a long skirt over the suits, with the intent of the bathing suit top serving as the top of the outfit.
This would not be for evening wear, just if we were at the beach and decided to go into town for lunch.
My question is:
Would this be considered rude to just wear a skirt over the suit. Should I wear a tank top over the suit also.
I don't want to be rude and offend the wonderful people of STJ!

I certainly would - and DO wear a tankini top with shorts or a skirt - even in the evening! A tankini top - or even the top portion of a one-piece bathing suit - is virtually a tanktop (albeit, tight fitting
) as is. There are plenty of tops that look just like a bathing suit top - so don't sweat it -hahaha - get it...
ENJOY!

ENJOY!
I have never just worn a sarong over a bathing suit in Cruz Bay, I am interested in hearing what others have to say!
I always wear the Fresh Produce Tee Shirt type dresses that come to the knee over my bathing suit! It is a comfy cool coverup that looks modest. I have worn it to Woodys, The Beach Bar and Caneel for lunch and breakfast and never had a problem!
St John Editions sells them, they are next to Mongoose Junction in a little house on the road. I buy a new one each year when I visit

I would not wear a sarong over a bathing suit (sorry just my opinion) as to me it looks like you are still on/leaving the beach. I think a tankini top is fine with shorts or a skirt as it just looks like a tank top. Now if your tankini top is very low cut and looks like a bathing suit then no I wouldn't wear it.
I was once told that if you wouldn't wear what you are wearing to go grocery shopping/out for a drink in your home town then please do not wear it to do the same on STJ. I guess their point was if you wouldn't wear it to a bar/restaurant after a day at the beach on the Jersey Shore then what is the difference while on STJ as this is our "city" if you gert my drift.
But having said all that I do see alot of different "styles"
of clothing around town and only once have I seen a local confront one young lady and give her a good talking to for being inappropriatly dressed.
Again just my opinion
Luv ya all

Thanks Pia and Betty
I will have to definetly pay Fresh Produce a visit. Hubbie keeps telling to pack little and buy what I need there. I will take his and your advice and get a coverup on island!
Pia that was well said. I think I will make it my motto where ever I vacation, if I wouldn't wear it out at home, don' wear it any where else either. It's all about respect. Why do us vactioneers forget that
Thanks,

I wasn't born in the Ozarks but I got here as fast as I could.
IT's so thoughtful of you to be asking this question and Pia is right on the money.
I always find it in bad taste for people to walk around in town with just a bathing suit (half covered or not). These people are really laughed at by anyone who knows better.
Typically it's the lobster red, folks off of the cruise ship for a one day trip who make this tragic error.
Personally, I always wear clothing over my bathing suit anywhere off the beach and always have. I find that it's a show of respect to people who live there and the local people will treat you accordingly.
Just wear your "Haven't I seen you on the forum" t-shirt and a pair of shorts and you'll be golden!!
