In-season, American SJU to STT flight, experiences?
In-season, American SJU to STT flight, experiences?
We are starting our Feb 2012 trip in San Juan and then taking American over to STT on a Saturday.
The time and price was right (very, very right!) so we booked our flights. The original departure time was 11am so we got excited by the prospect of having lunch in CA prior to heading over to SJU.
Well, I got a call from Amex travel over the weekend, American changed our departure from 11am to 2:30pm. Not the end of the world but we are bit bummed about missing out on our CA visit.
The agent said that American will change this departure at least two more times before February and it is likely to move back closer to our original departure time.
Anyone have experiences with American between SJU and STT schedule changes during high season?
This change isn't awful but what I am sort of worried about is the flight being cancelled all together. Cape Air isn't an option for a number of reason.

We were supposed to be on the American flight last year (Sept.) and they cancelled our flight two days before hand. Was irritated and we ended up taking Air Sunshine. Would have like to take Cape Air but they were already booked. I think you should be ok since that is in the middle of on season. The good thing is, no matter what happens, there are always many options to get to STT from SJU.
Been traveling from BOS to STT to STJ for 24 years, AA. We try not to go into SJU because of lost/pilfered baggage. The luggage usually gets delivered on STJ a few days late but food containers disappear. We have had better luck BOS to MIA to STT but always try for non-stop when available. If we buy tickets too early with a great price, it always changes several times. There's only 2 of us, so we carry-on when we can. BOS non-stop for Mar-Apr usually are available in Oct. Hope this helps. Of course the above is our experience.
We've flown from Boston through San Juan to STT or EIS numerous times without any problems. The last time we flew back from VG (through EIS) we did cut it a bit tight but it was deep in low season, so it worked out okay. If we were taking that flight in peak season, I'd want to allow more time in SJU to make the connection.
