Avis car rental - new charge

Just want to advise all that Avis now has an new add-on - Roadside Assist.

Flat Tire Assistance & Replacement

Fuel Delivery

I personally feel this is a rip-off to renters of vehicles, especially as to what the rental charge per day/week is!

So, in effect, if you get a flat, battery goes dead or whatever, if you don't have their add-on, you get to pay for them to take care of THEIR vehicle. Not sure what they would do if you just left THEIR broken car and just tell them it's YOUR vehicle you fix it.

Personally, I will not use them again. I stopped using Hertz because of the $1,000.00 fine if you bring their vehicle on the car barge. I may go back since I stay on STT and rarely go to STJ anymore.

Just my feelings, but thought others may like to have this information.

We've never rented from Hertz since you're not allowed to take their vehicles to STJ.

We've rented from Avis once or twice but for awhile now their prices have been a lot higher than Budget's so we stopped using them.

On our trip last month my parents got a flat tire on their Jeep from Budget while on STJ. They changed the tire but weren't comfortable having a flat spare, so we called and Budget brought a new Jeep over on the ferry to swap.
