Travel Guard~Reimbursment for Evacuation during Irene
Thanks for update and sharing useful info!
Nothing pisses people off more about insurance companies than difficult claims handling. Everybody knows that insurance fraud is a huge problem that we all pay for in the end - who hasn’t heard stories of people “padding” claims?
But please, they shouldn’t do this kind of thing on what was an obvious, legit case because of arcane paperwork technicalities. They should spend their resources going after the real fraudsters instead of making folks jump thru endless unnecessary hoops hoping that they’ll just give up.
There are claims that should get “red flag” treatment, but when every claim is handled that way because it’s the culture of the company, its time to find a different insurer.

When we come to place where the sea and the sky collide
Throw me over the edge and let my spirit glide

Unbelievable. When they throw that word around on a legit claim, in addition to your comeback, its time to throw these magic words back at them: "bad faith" and "state insurance commission".PA Girl wrote:The rep did throw "fraud" into one of our conversations and I said "seriously? for $180? If I was going to commit insurance fraud, I would try for a lot more money than $180."

Follow up on our Trip Insurance Claim:
Huge thumbs up to Travel Guard Insurance. We got our check today. Only one thing wasn't covered which isn't a big deal (the linen rental for the house~not sure why it's not covered but it's so minimal, I am not going to fight it). And, I made a small error on the claim, forgot to deduct the damage deposit for the house (which we got back from the rental agency). So, we have check in hand. I am sure we would have gotten this earlier, if I had called to follow up sooner. They were waiting for one thing from the rental agency and when I called, they sent another request to them and got it the next day.
Next time I need travel insurance, I'm definitely using Travel Guard. Everyone was pleasant to work with, the whole thing was seamless and covered exactly what it said it would. Even though our case was a little borderline (voluntary evacuation vs. mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Irene), they accepted the evidence we provided from Topsail Island's Mayor and never had an issue with our decision to leave.
