Top 5 Eats This Season?

Post by hunter s gatherer »

Hey forum members:

We are coming down in way low season next week. I noticed no August restaurant reviews. We have at least
15 meals to partake of on St John. How about replying with your top 5 picks of places not to be missed.

First Check out this list to see what is open.
This is Off Season and I think you may find your options limited

Hoping some of these are not closed on the list but here are mine- no particular order and all over the map (we tend to be more casual and early eaters- often subbing heavy apps at happy hour for dinner):

- Rhumblines
- Sun Dog Cafe (lunch- have loved everything there)
- Cafe Roma (huge portions- love their salads)
- Shipwreck- best gazpacho ever
- Donkey Diner (breakfast- the "Donkey's Mess" is amazing- and pizza)

and a few really casual extras:
- Skinny Legs (burger and atmosphere)
- Beach Bar- great for bar snacks at cocktail hour
- Tourist Trap- great stop when out that way- for drinks and munchies in the afternoon- great food!
- Woody's has some great wings- another good snack
- the G Spot- the Big G is one of my favorite burgers ever- it's huge- can be shared

Have not had Sam and Jack's yet but have heard great reviews of it- will definitely try it next trip.

Have a fantastic trip!!

We LOVED Happy Fish, ate there twice and ran out of time before we could go the third time.

Also, we had great meals at:
Shipwreck Landing
The Fish Trap
Rhumblines
Hide Tide
Sun Dog Cafe

We'll check out Spice once we get on island to come up
with the short list of what is left open.

I'm sure even you islanders don't eat at home all the time just because it's low tide. I'll just follow my nose.

Sam and Jack's Deli is our favorite find from our last trip! Delicious sandwiches. The Reuben fed both of us with huge pieces of corned beef.
They have lots of take out dinners, also.
I bought their tomato salt (and it's YUMMY on grilled corn on the cob :)
And who can resist tiramisu on your favorite beach???

I absolutely love Sam and Jack's! The turkey was incredible and friends loved other sandwiches too!
