Can anyone school me on airline change fees?
Can anyone school me on airline change fees?
due to a family health issue it looks like our scheduled trip in Sept. Will not happen. What am i looking at in change fees, USAir specifically. I know there is a fee plus difference in fare if there is one?
Is that it?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I know i really just need to call them was trying to figure what kind of fees i might be looking at it.jimg20 wrote:Generally, airlines will waive the fee if there is a legitimate reason. If you can present documentation from the doctor, they may let you turn in your ticket for a voucher to be used within 1 year.
Of course, you are talking about US Scare so who knows what they will do.

This is likely just going to be a change from Sept. To Late Nov. Early Dec.
I might not be making any sense. My brain is all jumbled right now!
When ticket prices dropped at the beginning of the summer I call US Air to see about changing our ticket to the lower fare. I was told that it would cost $150 per ticket as a change fee. If the fare was lower after the change fee, the airline would send a voucher for the difference. If the fare is more on the date you want to travel, I would think you would have to pay the difference. Maybe they will work with you with a family illness. Good Luck!
You just don't ever know.
On my last island trip I was with some less than desirable travel partners and husband & I decided to leave island early, we had just had it. At midnight I called to get a flight for the next morning and they (AA) changed it with no fee.
Let me add though, that I called initially and was told no fee, etc since the price was lower than what I paid. Then I called back to confirm and the new agent told me there would be a fee, so I hung up waited a few minutes and called back and got a different agent, and no fee, and booked it.

MB - I hope all works out for you.
Not to take this thread off course but does anyone else want to know more about this?

MB - so sorry to hear that you have to postpone your trip. Prayers and sincere hopes that health issues improve and you will eventually get to SJ.
First off, sorry to read about the health issues and a trip postponement
Secondly change fees really grind my gears. I can understand if w/I a few days of flying that there would be a fee since then they might not sell that seat, similar to a hotel holding your credit card and charging you if you cancel too late. But I've had to change a work flight four months out by a day and they still charged me 150!
I mean that's ridiculous, I still flew with them, just one day later. And they had months to resell the seat so I'm sure they didn't lose money. How many businesses can take your $$$ months in advance, make all the changes they want to the schedule and then charge you for a change. Can you tell it aggravates me?
But in any case, hope everything works for you.

I guess I hit the jackpot today when I called USAir. Bonnie could not have been more helpful and when I told her we had to change due to family health issues she asked me what the situation was and I told her. Not sure how she was able to do it but she waived all the change fees! What a break!
We had one award ticket but could not rebook an award ticket so we had to buy one outright which is fine. Bonnie redeposited miles also for no fee.
All in all an excellent outcome.
Thanks for the well wishes. My mom, who will be 88 on Tuesday, took a fall and fractured her knee cap. She's in a straight leg brace for 4-6 weeks and I needs full time assistance right now. I just couldn't see leaving that to my sisters for 10 days and being able to fully enjoy myself. So it just seems best for all that we postpone.
Carefree Getaways has also been wonderful in letting us switch our dates.
So now November soon come
And this too shall pass!
