Thanks to all who helped with our trip!

Post by Hawaii »

I just wanted to thank everyone here on the boards that answered my endless questions. You guys are awesome and helped so much.

Pia - Thanks for booking our trip with Palm Tree Charters. I wish we would have seen you but were always there on your day off - next time.

Just some thoughts and odds and ends. As much as people told us the mosquitos would be bad my husband and I only had maybe 2 or 3 bites and I usually get bit. On the other hand the kids legs looked like a battle field - not sure where they got bit - we just did not notice. I am sure staying at Casa Bueno helped since there was always a breeze up on the mountain.

In general, we found the people to be very helpful and friendly. STJ Car Rental the man was not very friendly but when we went there one day to ask about something the women in there was super nice so would rent again from them. Also, the jeep we had was in very good shape.

We never found the Banana Deck which I would have liked to try but maybe next time. Where is Deli Groto - obviously we never got to this place and will definitely get a sandwich to go for at least to eat in the airport. Airport food was terrible and so expensive.

We found the overall prices of food to be not too bad. It was what I expected for the most part. Since we only did one suitcase and carryon I packed 4 cans of pringles and tons of other snack food in our suitcase. Also, packed the packets of drinks for kids worked great. I packed cereal in ziplock bags that lasted for the week. I packed 4 cans of sunscreen so next time will pack more. Had to buy a bottle and luckily there was some at the villa that other people had left.

Again, thanks again for all your help. I know next time we will stay in the same area either Bordeaux Mt. or Coral Bay. Love that part of the Island. Our daughter loves to shop but as long as we hit Cruz Bay for one day we are good. Palm Tree Charters will also be a must do on our next trip. We all just loved being out on the water and it is such a different view looking at the beaches from the boat.

Well that is it for now. I will have to live thru everyoune elses trip reports till we are able to return again.

Hawaii- since no one had chimed in yet- thought i would try to help you out- Deli Grotto is in Mongoose Junction.
If you are at the Beach Bar looking at water, exit to the left and Banana Deck is across the street (like my landmark- you can tell what i was doing before eating dinner there!!) Very tasty! Just another reason to return! :D

Thanks we never made it to the Beach Bar but did pass it one day, I must have just not been looking for the Banana Deck that day. How could I have missed Deli Groto - I guess because we really just hung out at High Tide and visited STJ spice alot. Next time they are definitely on our list along with many other things we want to do.

you know ST Spice and High Tide aren't in Mongoose Junction? Mongoose Junction is the group of stores across from the Visitor Center.

It wasn't until our July trip that I experienced the really bad skeeters, even being absolutely dripping in Deep Woods Off didn't keep us from getting bit. My husband just got a few, our 5 yo son was one massive bite. Skeeeters are so dependent on the weather, hopefulling your next trip will be low skeeter.

Mongoose Junction is the stone shopping center at the "North end" of Cruz Bay right before you take the hill up to the overlook going towards the North Shore Beaches- you walk past the National Park dock on the way. Sounds like maybe you didn't make it over there? Definitely another reason to go back! Lots of great shops there- and Deli Grotto, Sun Dog and the Tap Room, just to name a few- many other great places to eat and drink, too....

Ok - I think I know which way to go now. We did not go past the National Park Dock. Is that where the Westin is down that way? I know I saw some taxi's going that way as our daughter was getting her hair braided.

No- opposite way from the Westin- the Westin is out the South Shore Road- you get there by going past Starfish and the gas station- you also pass the car ferry dock going that way (sort of). Mongoose is on the way to North Shore Road on the opposite end of town- going up towards the overlook over Cruz Bay, Asolare, etc. On the map link below- look at the top right area- where North Shore Road intersects Rt 20 on the map- the cluster of coral colored roofs is Mongoose. There's a small field right across the street from it and the National Park Dock is to the Southwest of the field. I hope that makes sense!
