Muhaha, Langkawai?
Muhaha, Langkawai?
The place has stuck in my head. I wondered if you ever got there?
I also find myself thinking of the Perhentian Islands and the Maldives.
This summer we've been to Cape Cod and south Jersey. Both are nice, neither is exotic.

lol, Lex....I would never find South Jersey exotic, although we have owned a condo in Angelsea, NJ for over 35 years.
We have a great time down there and we have alot of friends and it's close.
We just love sitting out on the beach and people watching and there's some great things to do in North Wildwood. Hope it's still standing after Irene because we're so close to the water.
I love Cape Cod. It's so big and every town is so different.
Hope to get up to the Cape soon.

Let me clarify: Muhaha is the name of a forum member, not a place. Muhaha posted a while ago that he was going to Langkawi. The post is addressing Muhaha and asking if he went.

Oh sure , I know muhaha, i just thought that ther was a place of that name as well . too bad! we were in Koh Bulon Leh, and Koh Jum , koh yao noi , Krabi, railly area as well--then went north--so many islands and so much to see!Maggy wrote:I remember that post. Yes, wonder if he went to Langkawi.
Lex, I have been to Thailand five times. Any specific questions? I might be able to help if it's regarding an area I actually been to. And I also went to the Maldives in February.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
Thanks for clarifying - I thought you were working with a sticky keyboard or something...Lex wrote:Let me clarify: Muhaha is the name of a forum member, not a place. Muhaha posted a while ago that he was going to Langkawi. The post is addressing Muhaha and asking if he went.

As I google the places that loria mentions, I start wondering why I haven't been back to Thailand. Years ago I spent a few weeks on Ko Samet in the Gulf of Thailand. That remains my favorite tropical vacation.
Maggy---
Where have you been in Thailand? I remember your Maldives trip report. After seeing your photos I added the Maldives to my list. It's interesting to me that, with all of the exotic traveling you've done, you spend so much time in the Virgin Islands. I kind of take them for granted, I guess.
loria---
Seems that you had a pretty magnificent trip through Thailand. We spent time in Bangkok then settled into Ko Samet. We'd intended to get to the Chaing Mai area, but moved on for some reason that I don't remember. I was really delighted to google Krabi. I remember seeing photos of that remarkable beach but never knew where it was.

"Sticky keyboard" is funny.

We have been to Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta. The Krabi area is really beautiful, but the used to be small village Ao Nang, is now more like Phuket, and I won't recommend it. Very touristy. There are less populated areas north of Ao Nang that might be better.
Khao Lak was really nice. First time was before the tsunami and second time after. It's a big difference, but still not as busy as Krabi. It's the closest place to Similan Islans, which are definitely worth a visit. Wonderful diving and snorkeling there.
Koh Lanta was also good. We stayed in the less busy south area in a hotel called Pimalai and it was great. I want to go back there. Not the cheapest place, but wonderful.
It's very easy to do day excursions from this area, island hopping, snorkeling or diving. I love Thailand for the nice people, the food, it's cheap and it's very easy to have a relaxing vacation.
Yes, why do we go to Virgin islands? Maybe the Caribbean for you is like the Mediterranian for us. And in Thailand and some other east asian countries, there are tons of Scandinavians. Everyone goes there. I think the Caribbean is more exotic to us, but most of all we have found some islands we love. Virgin Gorda is our favorite and St John come in second place.
I still dream about going back to the Cook islands and Fiji. That is like as far as you can go from here and you need at least 3 weeks to go there. I haven't been to Australia, so when we go there, we will probably go via one of the pacific islands also.
