Trip Report - Day 3
We were up and at 'em at 6:55am.
Well, I was.
My husband stayed in bed until 7:45am.
I enjoyed peace and quiet with my Kiss of the Jumbie coffee. We were at Gibney at 8:30am. (Yes, 8:30am.
) Of course, we were the only ones there.

YAY for no makeup for two weeks!

We enjoyed a peanut butter granola bar for breakfast and decided to go for a snorkel. We headed straight out, then circled to the right by the rocks. Super murky water again because of the rain, I suppose. And it was partly cloudy at times. That didn't help the visability.

I gave up on snorkeling and walked to the end nearest Hawksnest. Got some really pretty pictures along the way.

This chair was here last year, I think...
. Amazing how the view makes even this chair look fantastic. I'd definitely be sitting in it, rust and all, right now if I could!

Love the bright yellow leaf against the blue, and the palm tree shadow in the water.

Okay, okay....one more:

I snorkeled once more (still cloudy), read my Southern Living magazine some, and then we decided it was time to head to lunch at Deli Grotto. Believe it or not, we had NEVER eaten at DG. It became a favorite and a staple on this trip! I had the cuban panini, and my husband had the $3 pepperoni pizza slice. I learned about this *great* $3 bargain in the St. John Tradewinds, I believe. We also enjoyed some crack bar and chocolate banana bread. Oh, and my husband discovered their tamarind balls, which he purchased every chance he could. (ICK.)

We enjoyed the AC at DG (brrrrr) and headed out where we happened upon my alcohol-soaked plane seat-mate (CLT ---> STT...see Trip Report - Day 1). And....he still smelled like liquor. Fantastic.
Then we decided to head to Salomon - also a first. (Last year we hit Honeymoon via Caneel). Well. Let me just start with this...I'm happy to report that we are NOT getting a divorce because of this hike.
I felt like it at numerous points of the ONE HOUR LONG ORDEAL.
Lawd have mercy. So, yeah. OBVIOUSLY we took a COUPLE of wrong turns. We parked at the VI National Park Sign on North Shore and walked down the Lind Point Trail. An hour later, we arrived. As soon as we got there and tossed our stuff down, we hit the water. I was soaked with sweat and ILL as all get out.
Once I cooled down, though, it was all good. We had two angel fish (?) that stayed around us the whole time. Because I was ill and just wanted to soak, no snorkeling this time.

We stayed here for a little while and then decided we'd better leave before it got dark...or else it would take us LONGER than an hour to find our way back.
We came upon this along the way:

We saw the funniest thing on the way back to the cottage. A kitten - rooster stare-down at the dumpster. Hilarious.
We passed Rainbow Road everyday on our way to and from the cottage. This is cool because this is the street I grew up on! (Unfortunately, not on St. John.)

Random note: I started reading The Summons tonight. EXCELLENT book, btw.
We got back to the cottage around 5pm and ended up finding channel 8. Y'all. For real. Have y'all seen this? It's the shoddiest "news cast" I've ever seen in my life. HILARIOUS journalism. We grew to love Wes Small (a lively reporter), and looked forward to his nightly report on the "deadly LEAC."
We watched an X Men movie (you can tell I was really paying attention), and headed to sleep.

Loving your reports and pictures!
Too bad you didn't get a picture of the person from the plane-they might be a forum member
Tell your husband he looks all right without makeup!
We get to Salomon from the parking lot at the VI headquarters, then up the hill; maybe 1/2 hr? Not sure about this. Think this is the bottom of the Lind Point Trail. It can be mosquito-ey after the rains. I know we hiked it once from the upper section and didn't like it at all going that way; I think we must have got "detrailed" somehow too because I thought it was way steep and took a long time.
Love the DG food porn; makes my mouth water!
