Trip Report - Day 2 (July 31, 2011)
I woke up at 2am and 6am, but fell back asleep easily both times, and finally got up for good at 8am. I had my Kiss of the Jumbie Coffee (it's always better on island), and waited for my husband to wake up.

My husband's favorite beach is Maho, so that's where we decided to head today. As we were walking to a prime spot beneath the palms, we saw a baby shark patrolling in the shallow water. BAM! Right there. So cool. No picture because we still had our stuff in our hands, but this is what we saw when we settled in. GORGEOUS, just like we remembered!

We ate granola bars on our float in the water, and then decided it was time to snorkel.
We saw conch, multiple stingrays, squid, the ever-present barracuda, and my FIRST TURTLE!!!!! Yep - third trip to STJ is a charm. (Snorkeled out to the left towards the buoys and back in by the rocks.) The water was pretty murky / cloudy from all the rain (thus my lack of pix), but it was awesome to be back in the water and seeing the sights!

We decided after a few hours that it was lunch time, so we packed up and headed to Skinny Legs. I had the blue cheese burger (as usual...), and my husband had the special, which was pineapple and bacon and cheese. I also had the drink special - strawberry daquiri on the rocks. I had two actually - one was my dessert!
I took a book from the exchange, and we headed out to the East End to chill out after getting our tummies full.
No clue what the name of this one is, but we have gone here on all three trips. We didn't stay too long.

Headed to Gibney. No parking. Headed to Jumbie. No parking. No worries. We headed to the "secret beach" as there was no one in the parking lot...and no one on the beach! YAY! We sat in the [rough] water and I snorkeled a little around the pilings. Saw some pretty brain coral. We sat in the shade, walked on the beach, and decided to head up when the sun started going down.

While walking, we came across this bag of...weed?!?
We kept moving.

A WAPA employee was hard at work (sitting in his truck doing nothing) in the parking lot when we left.
Headed to Marketplace where we picked up turkey hot dogs, buns, turkey for sandwiches, bread, cherries, grapes, mustard, ketchup, blueberry and chocolate chip muffins, cheese, hummus, chips, ice cream, baked beans, you name it...not too shabby for $80!
Exchanged the Spanish calling card for an English speaking one
and headed across the hall to pick up some wine and rum. Rum = $11.99. Wine = $14.99. Hmmmm....something is wrong with this picture. But wrong in the best way.
Went back to the cottage, unloaded everything, and had sandwiches and chips for dinner while watching Big Brother. (Yes, sadly my trashy reality tv show addiction goes wherever I do.) In bed at 10pm.

I have a question about Denis. I think I was there once but now I forget. When you come down the trail are you on a part of the beach that is rocky and then you have to walk across the rocks to your right to the sandy part of the beach? Am I thinking of the right place?cindygad wrote:Dennis bay is one of our favorite spots too. Some great pictures. You have a way of capturing the moment.
CSCTraveler, enjoying your reports. I think the beach you hit after Skinny's on the East End was Haulover South.
MBW...you've more than likely been to Denis. The trail does end on the very left side of the beach and you have to walk to right over some loose rocks or one very big smooth flat rock that is covered in algae (recommend not going that way as I nearly broke my face on it)...you also can't miss Denis because of the posts still sticking up where the pier used to be down on the very right side.

It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
