TR Day 8 Honeymoon Beach again w/Pics

Post by awardb »

Back to Honeymoon Beach again, supposed to meet Collen and DH + Coden here, but we may have gotten our wires crossed as we never saw them. Beach was a little busier than last time. We spent the day here, from 11AM approx. until around 5:30PM. Not counting the temporary arrivals from the snorkeling boats that came and went in the bay, we saw maybe 15-20 people tops that came and spent some time. Water was cooler than L Lameshur, which helped, as it was hot.

Good breeze most of the day. We camped out under a sea grape tree right in the middle of the beach. We knew we were going to snorkel to our left, looking out, over and around the point separating Honeymoon from Salomon (sp?)
Water was clear and flat, and the fish and coral were great as usual. First thing in, and Sylvia spys a turtle digging a hole underwater. At the same time, I found a large hermit crab. Pics below of both. My favorite picture from that snorkel is the filefish we got closeups of, he's an amazing specimen! Later in the afternoon, I went on my own to the right, snorkeling the rocks along the coastline heading toward Caneel Bay. I was surprised, as there were more fish there than I remember, and decent coral as well. The water is very shallow there, so it allowed some amazing closeups of some of the fish - note the smooth trunkfish pics.

The pics are arranged this way: The first set are taken underwater on the left part of the beach, the point between Honeymoon and Salomon. Then, when the trunkfish appears, that and all the ones following are taken on the right-hand side of the bay, facing out to sea, in the rocks and coral leading to Caneel Bay.

Enjoy!
