Siren Test today!

...This is an ACTUAL PLANNED EVENT ALERT...

Headline: VITEMA to Test Tsunami Sirens at 10 a.m. Today

Today between 10 and 10:30 a.m., VITEMA will conduct a territorywide operational test of the Tsunami Siren Warning System. Those within 1,000 feet or more of the sirens will hear warning tone and/or voice messages for hazards that can impact the Virgin Islands.

On St. Thomas the sirens are at the Cyril E. King Airport, Griffith Park, the Yacht Haven Sugar Mill, and the Red Hook Marina.

On St. Croix, the sirens are located at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park, the Christiansted Parking Lot, near the Legislative Building in Frederiksted and on Emancipation Drive in Frederiksted.

On St. John, sirens have been placed next to the Legislative Building in Cruz Bay and near the Fire House in Coral Bay.

The public is not required to take any action and should not be alarmed. This is just a routine test of the VI Tsunami Siren Warning System. The test is expected to last about 15 minutes.

Boy am I glad I checked the forum this morning. That would have freaked me out if I heard it and didn't know what it was! Thanks.
