thoughts on last minute discounts

We are thinking about a trip next fall perhaps in October. I usually have a villa picked out way in advance. I was thinking of seeing about waiting until a month or 2 before and seeing about trying to get a discount.How about october weather , any thoughts?

I love STJ in Sept/October. It is the "rainy" season so be prepared with trip insurance. We have been three times during these months and have had beautiful weather and the water temperature is perfect! Also, a lot of restaurants are closed. As for last minute bookings, I leave next month and just started looking for a villa. There are some really great deals out there!

I think that as long as you are willing to be flexible as to where you stay, amenities, etc. that you would have no trouble finding a place at the last minute - and could possibly stumble upon a fantastic deal somewhere.

we are last minute travelers and have never booked a villa more than 2 wks in advance. done 4 trips oct with great weather 3 times and the 4th with 3 of 7 days heavy rain, but still enjoyed and loved water temp and small crowds. been about 3 yrs but as i recall villa selections were good and got great pricing all trips.

looking at a last minute trip last week of sept with newbie couple and there are plenty of great villas with availability and super discounts including several viva villas at 7 days for price of 5. doing last minute can avoid trip (not go) if h on horizon or even looks real wet. am a bit disappointed at restaurant closings including shipwreck and lime inn which are our favs on each end of island. ohwell.

noted there are several villas that appear to be closed for sept. you might want to look at availability for your 2012 dates for this oct to see what rates/discounts look like for next 2 months.
