Westin conceirge and Rental Cars

Post by alw1977 »

We're going to STJ in July. We're staying at the Westin courtesy of a great hotwire rate. I've attempted to contact Westin's "virtual concierge" via email to ask about a rental car, but two days has gone by without a response. Does anyone have an email address for a customer relations person at the Westin?

Also, if we don't rent a car through the Westin, who else is good? I've heard more than one negative thing about Conrad Sutton, so I'm truthfully a bit hesitant to rent from his company. Anyone else?

I cannot help you with the Westin part, but I can give you information on the car company we like to rent from--Penns. The people there are really nice, they have a big (for St. John, anyway) lot in town you can park in, and they just got a new fleet of cars (Jeep Liberties). They don't have a website, but you can call them at 340-776-6530.

Note that their cars cost a bit more than some of the other companies, but for us it is worth it for the condition of the vehicles, the friendliness of the staff, and most importantly, the ability to park in their lot.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Same thing happened to us in 2005, no response from the virtual concierge (virtual_concierge@westinresortstjohn.com) when we were trying to arrange our ferry transportation from STT.

We did receive an email after our stay from confirmation@westinresortstjohn.net. Back then the hotel manager was Matt Balcik. So I'd try this email and/or call the hotel directly.

We have used O'Connor Car Rental located at the Westin a couple times, so I guess I can asnwer the part about that.

I'm not sure why you have written the concierge as O'Connor's opperates a small office on the grounds of the Westin but is it's own business and other than physically being located on the grounds I don't think they are otherwise connected.

If you contact O'Connor requesting a rental I know that we did get a confirmation from them. It couldnt be more convenient to use their on-site office, especially if you are using the ferry transportation the Westin offers...easy pick-up and drop-off.

I think the concierge located on the grounds was VERY helpful in offering advise as well as making all of our dinner reservations...don't remember being impressed w/ their virtual service other than receiving automated replies prior to our arrivals.

Hope this info helps and ask away if I can answer any other questions!

Thanks everyone. Carolyn, I didn't even know the name of the car rental company at the Westin. I assumed it was through the hotel directly. The Westin's website provides no information about car rentals - hence, why I contacted the concierge. I'll contact the company directly.

I am using Budget at STT. Driving to the ferry and using a barge. No headaches with the taxis

what are the risks to renting a car in STT and using it on STJ? If it breaks down, are you screwed?
