Ferry to Tortola - Tax charged?

Post by Coden »

This is the question I meant to ask earlier.

I see that the fare is $35 r/t p/p. Does this include a tax or will we have to pay more $$'s when we disembark in Tortola?

Or, is there a tax we would have to pay when leaving Tortola for our return to STJ?

Hoping the $35 covers everything.

Thnx!!

As far as I know, there is only one ferry company that offers STJ - Tortola and the cost is $45.00 r/t There are more companies that go from STT - Tortola that have cheaper prices (I think anyway) but you would need to get to STT so it would end up being more expensive than the ferry from STJ.

Hope this helps

Pis

ps: where are you finding these prices??

Pia - thanks for your help. :)

I'm getting the price in the Trip Planning tab which is on the top of this page. Then I went into Getting Around, and then into Ferry Schedules.

Maybe the prices in there need to be updated?

I have taken the ferry STT - Tortola - West End some this past month - $45 R/T each time -- there is an extra $5 Departure Tax due when you leave Tortola however.

It is surprising but it is cheaper to take the ferry over than it is make a few 20 min. phone calls STT-Tortola.

You will have to pay a $25 customs fee. I'm pretty sure there is no tax, though.

Custom Fees!!! Those are the words I couldn't get to come into my head. I'm asking about custom fees, not taxes.

So, it is the r/t price, and then another $25 custom fee...or, just a $5 departure tax...or both?

The fare -- $45 includes all the fees except for that $5 departure tax I mentioned - I just did it again this morning.
I have used Smiths and Native Son Charlotte Amalie -- West End --[ never used InterIsland.]

When we left yost, we had to pay a $5.00 Brisish Virgin Island Passenger Tax (Departures by Sea). It is the Passenger Tax Ordinance Cap 191 as amended. I had ticket number: 1225026. So, when you leave by ferry you're going to have to pay. :D

Thank you everyone for your help. I now understand that the custom fee is in the r/t fare, and, that I would pay a $5 departure tax upon leaving Tortola. I'm all clear now and appreciate all of your help.
