Capn Dan and Ruby's StJ/Lovango - day 2

Post by Capn Dan and Ruby »

Once again we were up early and had coffee and breakfast. It rained hard early this morning and the stuff on the deck is wet. Oh well no problem. It is real hazy and I would love to see blue skies, but I am just happy to be here. I am sort of getting use to the town view.

At least there is an island view past the edge of town.
We are keeping the car packed with the basic beach necessities now, so we don’t have to re-pack each day. No lunch needed, it is Miss Vie’s today!!! We went to Hollover South first. Except for one young couple snorkeling, it was deserted! We set up the chairs and watched them snorkel. Being old hands at this, it was so refreshing hearing their shrieks of joy as they discovered things that we have come to expect. No one else was there, so we started our chilling first and enjoyed their fun. They soon moved on, and we had the place to ourselves. This was heaven!

Later we had a wonderful long snorkel. The water was not as clear as it could be, but it was not bad. We went to the right first then crossed over to the left side. On our way over we passed through those little jellies. I was a little scared, but apparently they are not the ones that sting. No stings. What came next was unsettling. I am a good swimmer, and I dive, but the water got really deep all of a sudden and not being able to see the bottom kind of freaked both of us out. We just paddled hard and got to more reef area. All was good and we felt a little silly. We went back to the chairs for chill time and you guessed it … a little nap. I can just feel the old BP going down!!! What a lovely day!
Next Miss Vie’s!

We got the Chicken and Johnny cake and rice, beans and beef. It was so good. The chicken was just like my mom use to fry, and since that never happens any more, it was a real treat! I think my favorite for lunch that day was the rice, beans, and beef. It had a seasoning that I really enjoyed. (I know I took food pics, but can not find them! Hmmm! :? )
After lunch we snorkeled Hansen Bay and I got to see my first octopus. It was tucked into the rocks, but it was an octopus. Later I saw a ray. No eagle ray though.

We were exhausted at that point so we headed back to CV1 for some pool time and a shower.
We decided to make a quick trip to the market to pick up some sweet potatoes to have with our steak. We decided to purchase some odd looking “local” sweet potatoes

(We are in to all things local this trip). I was really worried when I cut into them and they were hard as rocks and immediately started to turn brown. I quickly put them into salted boiling water as I hacked them into pieces and boiled them until tender. I mixed them with a little spray butter (for those of you who have to have the real thing…go for it) and milk (they were quite dry). They are delicious!!! If you like cinnamon that would be good too. A quick kitchen clean up and it is rum drinks on the deck! Yea! :D

I third the notion that the really deep middle of Haulover South is a little creepy! For some reason I get an odd feeling crossing that bay. Not sure why, it is the only place that makes me feel that way.

Enjoying your reports!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Eagle Ray Lover had that same unsettled feeling crossing Haulover South. The first time we did it, the sun was behind us, and I felt like I was going into a trance watching the sunbeams circle as the light dissipated into the deep. I was settling into a zen like state before she made we aware that she wasn't enjoying the experience as much as me.

...then I realized that we were in water so deep that I couldn't see the bottom!
Come see us!
