Awesome tips!

Re: the friction rash story-(not a dude so bear with me, if this is a dumb idea)
Sometimes when I run in certain kinds of shorts my thighs rub together and would result in a icky stinging friction rash. What has helped me is to coat the inside of my thighs in deodorant and viola no friction rub. I have also heard of a product called body glide that is specifically made for this issue. Would either of these work for beach hiking on island? I want to make sure my hubby stays happy. What about bringing a dry suit to change into?

And yes...I did already buy and pack cortisone anyway.

Thanks
Heather (who hopes she gets what your talking about)

I like the lists...and will be saving it as well...it was truly a pleasure to meet you and your lovely Maura...I can tell shes a sweet lady !!!
One thing hubby did after the rather uncomfortable walk out of Solomon was go to Low Key and buy the bottom Rash guard..kinda like Jammer spandex shorts they fit tight under his bathing suit and bing...problem solved...I also bought my little guy a pair before we came last yr..he loves them...even without the bathing suit...he wears them anyway..lol
Heres a pic of him in them...maybe he wont kill me for posting it..lol
I am looking forward to your trip report and am going to try and get started on mine today...Hubby has been working on the pics and I went right back to work as soon as we picked up kids and made it home...take care...and tell Ms. Maura hello...:)

Welcome home.

I've got to try the baby powder trick.

And I definitely agree with cell phone lights not being the best guide in an inevitable black out. My toes also agree.

Looking forward to the full trip report.

Ready for a new ticker yet?

Love all your hints and tips!

Since we are discussing the man rash issue, I will mention the product that I have found works well. Monistat chafing relief powder gel. Put it on before activities that could cause chafing. You can use it post-rash also, but it's better to just put it on every morning from the start. It really works, plus it is unscented. I think it is basically the same thing as bodyglide. John got a horrible rash walking back from Waterlemon one time, so I bought this stuff for him and he's had no issues since.

Now please get to work on your trip report! :D
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Really appreciate all the nice comments and they're a good reflection of the forum considering 90% of what I posted came straight from here.

Heather et al. that commented on the rash...when updating this list, we should probably add the preventative measures as well. I concur on the dri-fit spandex liners...I think I focused on the Cortizone because usually by the time you realize you've got the rash, it's too late.

Also, being a man, I know that even when we men are provided with logical, sound advice and proven ways to avoid things like thigh rash, we still will opt not to use them, because damn it, we're men and rashes and bruises and scars and screaming like a school girl when your wife puts ointment on them is cool. Men, men, men, men, men, men...to the fort!

Ski2Play and JJ, great to meet you as well...Ski, very jealous of your island permanence and I don't want to ruin the surprise, but JJ, in your drip report, I'm requiring full disclosure on Mr. Shaw's recent jewelry purchase/greatest father-son male bonding vacation moment ever...and tell him if he doesn't keep it in for a full year, it doesn't count. Greatness!

Posted this on TA as well, but love this report - so useful!

As far as that manly rash, my now 12 year old experienced a pretty nice case two years ago. We were in dire straits since he is a fish and entering the ocean was painful. I stopped in at Big Planet in Mongoose and the guy working recommended a Quiksilver swim trunks with special fabric (Diamond Dobby) on the inside. Since then we've had no problems - and if we are doing any hiking we add on some Body Glide as mentioned before.

All the men in my life now have these suits! Here's a link:
