12th Anniversary Trip Report: Part 4

Post by J&M »

Spent the morning of day seven chillaxin at the villa enjoying our coffee and views. Have I mentioned the views???

We decided on an impromptu hike to Ram’s Head and by the time we got it together, out the door and to the parking lot, it was 10:30. Let’s just say, not the time to start a hike in essentially full sun! Two liters of water and plenty of sunscreen were smart decisions. Despite the heat, it was a GREAT hike! We met one couple returning on our way out, so we had the peak to ourselves. Love it! Round trip, this hike took us about 2 hours, including the time hanging out on top.

Headed back to the villa afterward to cool off in the pool, eat a quick lunch of leftover Uncle Joe’s, and get beach ready. Decided on Hawksnest where the water was cool and beautiful, with more wave action than we remembered here before. We fell asleep after all the activity of the morning. What a great feeling! Couldn’t resist stopping at Gibney on the way out because there were NO cars at the gate…had the whole place to ourselves. The water here was also rougher than usual; I guess that explains the great breezes we were experiencing.

Back to Coral Bay for happy hour at AB…the beginning of a beautiful new tradition Highly recommend their Pusser’s Painkillers! Cleaned up at the villa for our first ever DINNER at Skinny’s (remember the hike = Skinny’s burger rule?). We did not know what to expect of an evening at Skinny’s after all previous visits being during the day, and we were not disappointed. It was certainly a happening spot with what appeared to be mostly local’s? It’s always hard to say, because after a few days on island, alot of people start to look local-ish Did I mention, we continued to enjoy Painkiller’s and rum punch? Back to the villa for our favorite evening pastime…star gazing. I must admit, though, that we do not seem to know the constellations? We must get confused by the directional changes (or maybe the rum punch?)…but we don’t care, we make up names of our own. It is beautiful regardless.

We got up early on day eight to head into Cruz Bay and get a dinghy at Noah’s for the day. This is the first time ever we have not reserved a dinghy, but we have seen them on the beach each time we passed so we are not worried. We arrive, four dinghy’s on the beach BUT they are reserved by a large party. Stupid mistake on our part. We tried Calypso (no answer) and Cruz Bay Water Sports who rent from the Westin (could only do ½ day), so we scratched the dinghy. Headed to Caneel to walk over to Honeymoon where we generally stop on the dinghy. We love this beach and the walk over is easy. Oh, and BTW, we saw the four dinghy’s from Noah’s heading out.

After a couple of hours, we packed up and headed out to Vie’s, paid our $2.50 and enjoyed the lounge chairs! We were visited by the lady who we think lives in the green house behind the beach and her dog, Oliver (aka Poke Man). We love dogs and it was fun to see him run and play. Dinner was Donkey Diner carry out pizza (another first) which we enjoyed very much!
