Car Rental - St. John

Post by dbeahan »

Looking for recommedations for a car rental company on St. John. Prices all seem about the same, but I prefer one that allows parking on their lot when visiting Cruz Bay. Thanks for any suggestions.

L&L does NOT have a parking lot in Cruz Bay but they give excellent service, exceptional vehicles, they meet you at the dock for pick-up and drop off. They offer late hours. If you decide that parking is not as important or cannot find one that has parking I would highly recommend L&L.

St. John Car Rental offers parking in their lot, though it's limited. They're located down near the Beach Bar and Banana Deck.

Most of the time we use St. John Car Rental. Last time we used Courtesy. Like St. John Car Rental best. In off hours they let you park in their lot, and have always been treated very nice and have never had an issue with their vehicles (starting, tires etc) and their like, 1.5 blocks from ferry dock.[/list]

We also have used St John Car Rental for many years. One year they had accidentally overcharged our credit card and they called my husband when we got home to let him know they were sorry and issued us a credit.
Honestly, we probably would never have noticed.

I think with all the rental car companies on St John, a good morning and some small talk goes a long way. There cars have always been in great shape.

We have also used St John Car Rental. They have provided excellent service and were very responsive this last trip when our AC failed. The only trouble we had this past trip was that they must have had very few cars rented during the time we were there because we were never able to park in their lot, even at 8AM when we came into town for our daysail.

The last time we were there we used:

http://www.stjohnjeeps.com/ Bougainvillea Leasing Ltd.

We are using them again for our August trip.

The last time there, they did have a small parking area by their office. We only used it once. The other times we parked in Cruz Bay we used Slim-Mans lot.

We used Courtesy the first time and were very pleased. Then they moved further away and we tried another company. They have a reputation among some to be a problem. We had several problems with them. We will not be back. Last year we used St John and were very pleased. We will use them again in.........(drum roll) 9 days.

Now it's back to being minimally productive at work.

We used SJCR several times and were totally satisfied. We gave Penn's a try once just because we'd seen so many really warm reviews of them. We stuck with them. Really nice people. They do have a lot in Cruz Bay that's very convenient.

With any company that permits parking in their lot, it's not guaranteed that you'll have a space, but you're welcome to park there if there is a space.

Penns has the largest and easiest to maneuver lot. You can also park at ST John Car Rental and Conrad Sutton. That said with the new parking lot open down at Enighed I don't think parking in actual Cruz Bay would be a final factor in my choice of car company. That new lot is only a block from town.

We have frequently used St. John Car Rental as well, but just found out that they have changed their in season date from December 14 to November 14, making our early December rental at high season rates. Going to try L&L - they have been very responsive so far.
