Great day but D10 caput!!
Great day but D10 caput!!
Second full day on island and its great. Today we went to Francis and I saw the biggest turtle probably at least 4 feet, got a great picture but do not know how to post. This is my first St John trip with my Canon D10 I used it last year in Eleuthera. Well it must have leaked because it will take pictures put cannot review them or change any settings bummer. Right now it is resting in a bowl of rice. So everyone say a prayer for my camera lol.

Canon customer service has been exceptional to work with as we know from two past experiences with fauly cameras. They sent us back two cameras wiithout hesitation. ( hope you get yours working and don't need their involvement, but wanted you to know this inof - just in case.)

It may still come back to life
Have had 2 and the 1st died on the 1st snorkel, the 2nd had a problem but came back the next day and for the rest of the trip. Canon replaced the 1st. We'll see what happens next. Hope yours survives!! It's a major bummer when that happens.
all you have to do is smile, smile, smile
Agree with Canon customer service, fabulous. Even if it is out of warranty you should contact them (if you have cared for your camera well) and let them know what happened.
Ours broke shortly out of warranty. Canon was great. I don't even think I had a receipt. We got a new camera and even accessories (they had told us not to send them in for the repair). It was easier for them to replace so they sent a whole new box with accessories. We came out ahead.
Then again, I have told a million people so good service does pay off!

Well my Canon did great yesterday at Haulover after drying out in rice all night. Today we hiked out to waterlemon, current was rough so stayed closer to shore. Camera turned on once and went dead. Back in the rice but I think RIP camera. Anyone have any suggestions on a good waterproof camera ?

Nancy, sorry to hear about your Canon. I had similar problems with mine after (I think) rough waves in Florida compromised the water seals. Rice seemed to make it worse. I completely agree about Canon's service. They replaced the whole camera because I'd had it less than a year. I know it doesn't help you now, but you might want to see if they can do something with it. You can schedule repairs right on their website and ship it to them. I had a replacement in about 10 days. Also, my memory stick was fine in spite of the moisture. I just stuck it in my computer and pulled everything off. Good luck!

I bet it was the same turtle we saw...I dont think Ive ever saw one that big. As far as a Camera goes...We are Olympus people. We have the older 770 and the newer 8000 now with that being said...We have 2 for a reason...the 770 leaked in 08..and Olympus was right on the ball getting it back to us...less that 2 week turn around...we bought it in 07 on STT. I had used it in a Hot tub on a Disney Cruise and I really think thats what screwed it up. So in 09 when we were on STJ...she leaked once again...of course the warranty was out...(we had checked prior to going to STJ and could not find the housing for it as it was a cpl yrs old)...So we then purchased the new one at Royal Caribbean at Mongoose Junction and we also bought the housing this time...and have never had any more problems. We use it alot..even here at home, water parks and other trips...It has spent alot of hours in the water...I would highly suggest spend the extra and get the housing...
