12th Anniversary Trip Report: Part 1
12th Anniversary Trip Report: Part 1
This was our 8th visit to STJ, however, this is my first attempt at a trip report. I enjoy reading everyone's so much, that it seems only fair that I reciprocate:)
We arrived in STT on Friday, May 20 in the midst of heavy rain. We had known it had been raining for at least a week and were so hoping we would have better weather...day one, aka travel day, not so much. Our "routine" is to arrive a day early and use some of our hard earned (i.e., work) Marriott points at Frenchman's Reef. Since it was under renovation, we stayed instead at the Morningstar Beach property which we liked better. We had dinner at Agave Terrace which we always enjoy (also part of the "routine), still raining. But we are enjoying every minute of it! A side note re: travel day...for the first time ever, we checked our box of provisions on the plane instead of shipping. It worked out just fine, paid the $25 and we were assured of having it at our villa. We will probably do this again as it eases some of the anxiety of "will it arrive???".
Day two, only sprinkling as we woke up. We head out in time to shop at the Food Center on STT which we find has great selection and prices. Bought chicken, steaks, some produce, cheeses. And of course Caribs! Were on the noon car barge which happened to be my favorite one, you know, the one with the palm trees:) A good sign! BTW, it is no longer raining and we spot some blue sky! Met our agent at the barge lot and followed him to Drake's Lookout, our villa in Coral Bay. I must mention this is our first time staying in Coral Bay and we were quite excited! The villa is quite high up the hill behind Aqua Bistro, what a VIEW! We were not disappointed. We unpacked, changed to head out to the beach and into Cruz Bay for Wagapalooza! At this point 50% blue sky!!! Stopped at Maho, after getting a SPEED WARNING (29 in a 20 zone) by the NPS Rangers??? What!!! This was a first for us even seeing them pulling people over? Several people were getting tickets so we were lucky. After some quality Maho time, we head across the road to the jeep. My husband noticed something in the driver's side floor...AN EGG! A chicken had actually jumped (flown?) into the car and laid an egg. Now we have an answer to the age old question, why did the chicken cross the road...well, to lay an egg in the car, of course! Love it!
When we arrived into Cruz Bay, we found out Wagapalooza had been postponed due to "threat of rain". However, it is continuing to get brighter and brighter...we are happy! No worries, we will come back next Saturday. Headed to Beach Bar for drinks...also a "routine", my first of many Painkillers comes from the Beach Bar. Picked up some hitchhikers on the way back to Coral Bay via North Shore (which we realized would be our preferred route for going into "town"). This was our first time picking up hitchhikers which we had always wanted to do, but for some reason never had? I highly recommend it as you meet some really interesting people, both locals and travelers. Dinner at Island Blues which was great! Love sitting by the water. We were back to the villa by 8:30 to enjoy our georgeous home for the week!
We have some great pictures and if I can figure out how to post them, I will add with subsequent reports:)
