Bert's Trip Reprt - Day 1- 5/24 - 6/3
Trip Report May 24, 2011 - June 3, 2011 St. John USVI
Day 1:
This year, we decided to see how early we could get up to go to the airport....or just not go to bed at all and just drink our way thru the night. Our flight out of DFW was scheduled for 5:45am. Dang, I thought there was only one 5:45 in the day, and that happened right before sun down. Be that as it may, we were there bright and early...well, early anyway. We did go to bed, not much sleep, as usual, but arrived at DFW with time to spare.

We arrived on St Thomas at 3pm, got the free rum shot, and headed to the baggage claim area. There is no way we can travel "carry on" only. Just our cameras, netbooks, cell phones and all of the chargers and adapters take up one carry on, not to mention the snorkel gear, etc. There were those on the plane who were traveling carry on only, and most of them were in boarding group 1 or 2...I guess they paid extra for that, and I never saw such large "personal" bags! But we managed to find enough overhead space for our (one) carry on. I did have a murse. Greatest thing in the world! Should have had it long ago! Time for the 1st Presidente of the vacation!!

We were met by Bazile
Sorry, not a very good picture of Bazile, but the only one we got, and he took us to Red Hook for the ferry. But, we missed the 4 o'clock ferry so had a Presidente while we waited for the 5pm ferry in the nice new terminal building.

We were met by Lisa, of Vacation Vistas, picked up our boxes we mailed to Connections and were off to Idyllic. Idyllic is a nice older villa, I will post a review of it in the villa review section later.

We were able to get in some pool time and snacked and had some adult beverages for dinner. We then Forced ourselves to stay up late to watch the Dancing with the Stars final show only to get a "no signal " message from the cable on each of the final dances and the announcement of who won. But we were able to see all the commercials. Go figure.
Tomorrow, in town (Cruz Bay) shopping day.

I used to stay up all night before our early morning flights. I would clean the house and do all the laundry. That energy left me years ago!
I could have written your reason for not being able to do carry-on. Same thing in our family. My husband's emergency work/phone number/manual thing alone is a couple inches thick.
