Sept. trip
Sept. trip
Hi Everybody,
Tommy and I haven't been able to get back over since May of last year...no jobs = no money =no STJ.
Well now there are jobs...but no time. We do however have a small time frame in Sept. (beginning the 17th or 18th) that we can come over for 5 nights. What I was wondering is,what is it like during that time frame. We have always been on island in April thru July. How concerned should I be with Hurricanes or other things?
Also, does anyone have any ideas about a place near town (Cruz Bay) that would be good for five nights? Will definatly have to have air in the bedroom and would like to have a kitchen. Walking distance to town would be good. We have always rented a villa outside of town and needed a car. Have thought about condos at Grande Bay. Would like to keep the budget down as much as we can...cause flights are unreal in cost. It will just be the 2 of us. Thanks for any info you can give .

I would highly recommend Grande Bay for convenience to town. We've tacked on a few nights there at the end of our trips and will do so again in November.
Tracy in WI has a unit there and it looks available for your time; check it out VRBO 328461.
I haven't traveled in September so can't advise there. I suspect it's pretty quiet and some places still closed. Of course, hurricanes are always possible; trip insurance would be advised.

I was there in September last year. A lot of the restaurants are closed but most of the shops seemed to be open. There were far fewer tourists and even locals than other times I have been. A lot of the locals go stateside for vacation in September. I went to church in Coral Bay a few weekends and they didn't even have enough people to fill the choir.
Also, September is BY FAR the most active hurricane month.
Perks are much less traffic and deserted beaches.

Also, if you wait until last minute, you will find the best deal on lodging. There will be availability anywhere you want to stay. You can save at least 20 percent - probably more.

I don't mean to be a downer, but September is the most active time weather wise. I could sugar coat it but that would not be right. All weather threats are taken seriously here, we have been really fortunate in the past 10 years, we can always hope for that to continue! As was said by someone else, lots of restaurants are closed during September. There are good sandwich/deli spots that you can eat a late lunch as a main meal in Cruz Bay that stay open all year. When it gets hot here, cold drinks and light eating are best. There is a noticeable change in the amount of people on the island in September. I love every month here, I am just more alert to weather in September. Be prepared, not afraid.

Thanks all...good info so far. I am checking out a few of the listings that were mentioned. The STJ Botique Hotel...do they have a website? And if we decided to rent a car on lsland after all...do they have parking anywhere? Def. want a kitchen that I can prepare breakfast in each morning...so a studio with just micro and small fridge wouldn't work.
Thanks Sherry.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

There will be plenty of cars available and you won't have any problems finding parking in September.

My wife and I looked at this hotel, only issue was no off street private parking. You would need to play...find a spot or park where you rented your vehicle. If you search the villa rentals you will find many small cottages for a reasonable price. We like the Coral Bay side...nice to use as homebase...
