1st trip to USVI - St. John, looking for advice please!
Hi, I'm making my first trip to St. John during July 4th weekend. I hear that Carnival is going on and that is a fun time in Cruz Bay.
I am looking for advice on where to stay for under $200/night (safe villa or resorts ok). Safety is a top concern as it is only myself and my girlfriend.
I'm wondering if its a good idea to stay in Cruz Bay area and how to stay safe in the area. I found lavender hills suites and they get good reviews on tripadvisor.com. Any better options out there, thoughts? Are the partiers going to get crazy that weekend or is a more chill festival type occasion?
Also, looking for advice on Romantic things to do, fun activities, etc. Details appreciated.
I may consider staying on St. Thomas, but I want some good advice first!
Thanks in Advance!
Carl

No one seems to be responding, so I'll take a stab at it, though I'm no expert.
I suggest you look at a few websites and look for "last minute bargains." Check out http://caribbeanvilla.com/lastminute.asp and you will find some villas and condos that meet your budget. You can also check out vrbo.com and plug your dates in to see what's open.
I suggest for first timers to stay close to Cruz Bay. Areas like Cruz Bay, Great Cruz Bay, and Chocolate Hole are close and accessible. Take a look around at villas, narrow down your list, then ask for any recommendations.

It does not get "crazy' as in Mardi Gras crazy..There will be more people in town than usual but a fun atmosphere. Lavender Hill is a great choice...Quick walk to town and back. We don't worry about safety but as there are more people just be vigilant and don't do anything stupid (just like home!).
There are some great restaurants and you can't beat the sunsets for romance. Stay on STJ...you'll love it!
