Skin gor Olympus 770
Skin gor Olympus 770
I'm thinkin' about ordering a skin for my 770. the price is right.. It seems that they come in colors as well as clear...I have the blue 770...anybody know the advantages/disadvantages of color vs clear?...or am I taking this decision to a new girlie level?!Gotta run but will check in this afternoon. thanks for any input!
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks than in the drink with a boat on the rocks
Make sure you get the 770 model. The 720 model skin is not the same. I bought the wrong skin and never replaced it. Take into consideration that you need to thoroughly rinse out the camera with fresh water every day after using in salt water. This may make having to remove the skin regularly a pain. For mostly out of water use, I think the skin might provide a little better grip.
I'm seriously considering getting the 770 to take with us on our STJ trip this coming fall.
My wife's camera is the Stylus D400, which was one of the first splash/dust resistant digital point and shoot cameras, which is why I got it for her (so she didn't have to use my C5050Z since she's a little rough/careless with cameras for my liking).
The 770 is obviously a step up not only in ruggedness and waterproof(ness?), but in camera performance/features as well, and since we're stimulating the economy...
I notice that Olympus offers a PT-035 housing that will allow the 770 to be used deeper underwater. I'm intriqued, because I have a PT-015 I bought several years ago for the C5050Z. I would be worried that any small leak in the housing could permanently destroy that camera, but I'd think that in anything short of a catastrophic housing flood the 770 would fare better since it's designed to get wet anyway.

Come see us!
I just ordered the clear skin for my 770. The main reason I bought it is because someone said it did not float (strange for an underwater camera)and I thought maybe the skin would provide more grip while snorkeling so I will not accidently check to see if it really is water proof up to 33 feet.
I also am ordering a floating neck strap to put on it in case the skin does not work out. In any case, I think a $20.00 investment to potentially save a $400.00 camera is a good deal.
I'll let you know as soon as I get it and run some tests.

I got a clear skin for my Olympus 770. My camera is a bronze color. Although, the orange color skin may help find the camera if you drop it in the water. I have one of those skins for my palm treo and it has really helped me grip it better as well as protect it. The camera skin seems easy to peel on and off.
Hey, thanks for all the input you guys...guess I'll have to stimulate the ole' economy ONCE AGAIN for trip prep! Camera has arrived and I am working my way through the book..will try to give it an underwater test drive this weekend. Hope it works OK in a foot and a half of H2O (water temp here still in very low 60's and I am a Wuss !)..It's all in the name of science...

I ordered the neck strap from an on line photo store, Adorama. It is www.adorama.com
More specifically,
http://www.adorama.com/Search-Results.t ... ck%20strap
I don't know if it works, I will try it as soon as I can get the time.
Good luck,
