AT&T Service

Post by lablover »

i know this has been posted previously but I can't seem to find the posts. We are currently staying on Gift Hill and are getting zero reception with our AT&T iPhones. We had a local friend visit the house and she was getting great reception with her at&t phone. Why would she get reception but not us? Last year we stayed at Hibiscus Gardens overlooking the Westin and our reception was fine (same iPhones and same AT&T plan). Any ideas?

My first suggestion is to completely shut down your phone and restart it. If that doesn't work, I'd look at your various settings, and compare it to your friend's settings. Good luck.

From my AT & T experience some areas on-island are spotty as far as service. Sometimes in our villa I had no service but went outside and I did.

try going into....

settings >> general >> network >>

then turn off the "enable 3G", this will switch you out of the 3G network and into the old AT&T Edge (E)network. Its too slow for data but great for calls.

Data usage is equivalent to something like 1100 phone calls on a cell tower, something like that, so when you switch off the 3G option you get into the old network and you'll get fewer dropped calls.

At any rate, its possible that the tower on STJ will get you a better signal on Gift Hill with the Edge network as opposed to the 3G network. In general, Edge network coverage is much better throughout the U.S. as compared to 3G. Maybe that's true on STJ also?

Last point,....we live in the countryside in NH and I have a home office, AT&T signal is weak in my home. I just got a 3G Microcell tower for inside my house, it was free from AT&T. This thing is absolutely awesome, it replicates an AT&T 3G signal in your house through your internet connection, now I've got 5 bars on my iphone. The signal is only good for about 40' from the transmitter. This would be a great thing for many villas on STJ!
