Weather

I am getting a little concerned about the weather, clouds and rain -as we are beach people. Does anyone have any clue about next week. I have searched every weather source available. I check the Spice Web Cam every chance I get and it seems cloudy all the time.

I don't think anyone can predict what the weather will be, it is what it is.

We did not have good weather at all but we had a great trip.
We didn't get as much beach time as we wanted but both came home relaxed and happy with sun-kissed skin The water was warm, the air temperatures were warm and we made the best of it.

It would have been a different trip if it was sunny every day, but it was by no means a bad trip.
I was lucky to be on STJ, and in my book, that is lucky enough.

You can't change the weather, but remember this: If it's raining on the north shore beaches, head over to Salt Pond of Lameshur.

I know it stinks, but you can't let yourself get upset about the weather. You can't do a thing about it. John and I have been down twice when we had a complete and utter washout: last July, when the island got something like 20 inches of rain and flooded out, and July 2006, when three tropical waves came in one after the other. In both cases we were down for over two weeks, and I think we had one sunny day each time. You just have to find other things to do. We read a lot of books, played a lot of board games, went swimming in the pool in the rain, slept a lot, etc. It was still a fun and relaxing time. Not what we expected or wanted, but we dealt with it. It was better than being at work!

If a rainy, cloudy day is the worst thing that happens to you on any given day you are a lucky individual....things could be worse, many people never get to have a real vacation, let alone St John....and, bonus!....you are above the ground alive and kickin' vs 6 feet under! Embrace the beauty of it all! Just sayin'

I am one of those people who stresses about the weather and am stressing as we speak. No, there is not much you can do about the weather and I will try to make the best of it but will I be extremely disappointed if I don't get much beach time? Absolutely. To have a year of planning, waiting and saving to be ruined by weather is a big downer. I am not one of those people who feel that a rainy day in St. John beats a rainy day at home. At least at home I am not paying for it or using up vacation time. I can sit at home and read in the rain and look at gray water in the rain. I am fully prepared to be eating and drinking all day if it comes down to it but I hope it doesn't.

I am a type A who stresses about everything! I wish I didn't but I can't help it!

liamsaunt..I like your idea of swimming (and hot tubbing) in the rain! We are also packing cards and dice and I will throw in an extra book.

When I think back on our trip, I don't think back that the weather was crappy, even though it was.

My fondest memories are those that had nothig to do with the weather. Dancing on the deck of Into the Mystic with Bev, meeting Boston Mike at the dock with beers, laughing with Chip about a million different things, the Blue Mitten...

Vacation is vacation. It is all in your mindset. I don't worry about anything.

I agree with what everyone said...I used to stress about the weather...after we took our third trip we realized rainy on St John is better than a sunny day any place else...

I had two rainy STJ trips last year but still managed to have a great time!I did 13 dives betweent the two trips, snorkeled a lot and managed to take a lot of great pictures. I got to see the island in an flooded state. It was really green.

Make the best of it. My husband frets about the weather but he was pretty optimistic on our trip last July. What really ruins a trip is when someone with you is complaining about it and just won't let loose and have fun anyway. There are plenty of things you can do in the rain. We had a lot of bar time and ate out a lot but oh well. It was better than being at work in the rain!

According to this site (as of 5/19/11) the weather next week isn't bad at all. Anytime a forecast for St. John says 30% chance of rain, that is normal and typical even though it may be sunny or partly sunny that day.

Furthermore, I always buy full trip insurance and if a place is going to be a total washout, I'll just cancel and go elsewhere. It isn't worth it to me to go on a rainy vacation. I'm fine with some rain, but if a system plants itself overtop where I'm going to be staying, I change my plans. But, my vacations are rare and therefore I'm pickier about it.

We have been down here since last Thursday and this is the worst weather we have seen out of all our trips. We are also beach people, but we refuse to let it ruin our stay. Spent some great times with Dee (thanks for the beers), Bev (thanks for the cake and bags of jello shots), and also Traveler John and Poolmom. You just got to roll with it and that's all you can do.

Oh, here comes the rAin again! dang it!

We leave on Saturday so I am sure it will be nice and sunny after that

If it doesn't involve a tropical storm/hurricane..then I am pretty stress free. Omar did cause me a little concern..ok, alot...as he chose to arrive a couple days before one of my trips...

Boston Mike- You missed 48 degrees and rain all week up here in Boston. When you get back on Saturday the sun is supposed to be back and temps in the 70's!

I am friends on Facebook with Palm Tree Charters and he posts the weather everyday, and it has sounded pretty rainy.

I'd be unhappy on St. John in persistent bad weather. A day or two, ok, but more than that...I just don't know what I'd find to do.

Good luck everyone heading down soon. This can't last that much longer!
