Coden,
We visited Sunset View, Surf Sound and Far Horizons and passed on all of them. Pretty basic lodging.
- Sunset View - convenient but noisy, as it is in the thick of downtown traffic and construction
- Surf Sound - isolated, private, nice view, but a very steep driveway
- Far Horizons - on the lower level of a house, small dunking pool, not much of a water view
It appears that budget is key for you. If so, consider not renting a car (which would rule out Surf Sound). Far Horizons would be my reluctant pick from the above three, but I think your other choices might be more promising.
PM if you wish.

Thnx Toonman - I've listed your comments alongside each unit in my spreadsheet. I appreciate your input.
While budget always plays into a decision, the units I've listed range from $675 to $1400 per week. We are looking at units with A/C...that is our main criteria.
Also, how much room do 2 people really need? That is what we are trying to decide. We are both good with small places, but at the same time, for 2 weeks would like to be able to stretch out a bit.
Also, the smaller places have smaller kitchens...that it a concern as we like to cook.
As far as renting a car...I imagine that we'll have one for the 2 weeks no matter where we rent...I've never been on vacation w/o wheels. Could I do it?

We stayed at Bananaquit last summer for a week and found it just fine. It is pretty basic, but has all you need. It was clean, close to town, had AC in the bedroom, a nice balcony but not much of a view.
It is downstairs from the owner and we saw her once in a while, so it's not very private. We were gone most of the time anyway.
If you're looking for a clean, basic place for a good price, I would stay there again.

Yes - you walk down a hill and you're at Frank Bay so it's close to town. I'm not sure I took any interior pics from our trip, but I will check.Coden wrote:Thnx Tracy - I sent them an e-mail last night, asking for more info/pictures. Is it a straight walk out to the beach?
p.s. I love your unit at Grande Bay. I hope you all have many, many happy years there!
And Thanks for your P.S.!

If you can't find something that works, I might try to negotiate a bit for some houses that are slightly above your range. Depending on the season of your visit, that might be possible. Just ask them if it is their best rate and explain that you are having to stay within budget and they are very close to your max of....and that you think their house is charming, nice, whatever.
Re the car, I think you will regret not having a car at least part of the time. You'll miss out on a lot of great beaches that way and two weeks is a long time and ideal for exploration. I'd get a car for at least a week.
Unless you are up for hitch hiking, but that isn't going to help much with the more remote beaches.

"Sponges grow in the ocean...I wonder how much deeper it would be if that didn't happen."
Hey Tracy - thnx for the added info. Question...is it a steep drive/walk to get to Bananaquit?
Also, to get back into Cruz Bay...do we just walk down the beach and we are there?
It seems like one evening we walked up that way after dinner one night, but I am not for sure.
djmom - my thoughts exactly on the car rental.

Coden, we've stayed at Far Horizons and would stay there again. The Cottage is right at poolside at Battery Hill, comes with a great view but also I've read can get a little noisy on busy nights. Also, right next to Bananaquit, Mahogany tree is now Aqua Bay Villas - http://www.aquabayvillas.com/ and might be worth a look.
Thanks, Steve for the Aqua Bay Villa tip - those are doable and in a very nice setting.
We've looked at probably 200 + (certainly feels like it anyway!) units all over the island, and we need to sit back and DECIDE if we want a smaller place or something with a nice full kitchen. Do we want something with a pool or a hot tub...is it private or shared. Does the unit/villa have TV & Internet. Of course it has A/C!!!
Plus we need to decide if:
Stay in Cruz Bay and maybe not rent a car for 2 weeks or
Stay in Coral Bay (or elsewhere) and rent a car for 2 weeks.
I want to thank everyone for their help!
