So, what should I do with this dinghy?

So, what should I do with this dinghy?

Post by Maggy »

I came back from a wonderful trip to Virgin Gorda, two weeks ago. I will write a trip report and post some pictures soon.

But, like CG I have a photo with a dinghy in the way (or not?). This photo is from Devils Bay on Virgin Gorda. But it annoys me that the red dinghy is in the picture as I think it steels the attention from the rest of the picture. Or is it just me? Maybe it adds a litte color and makes the picture better. If the dinghy had been white, I might have been better. Should I remove it? Or can you Photoshop it white?

I put my finger over the dingy, and it needs to come out. Ha!

And I am a red person...so that is saying a lot. :D

Yes, it does need to come out, right? Thanks for your opinion.

Now I just have to figure out how to do that in Photoshop  .

Oh, and I need a new ticker....

LOL Maggy, we have similar issues! I'm totally in favor of anything red in my pictures from the VI, however this dinghy does steal the attention. I would take it out, or maybe just lighten it a little so it's not so attention-getting. You can mask it off and use your Hue/Saturation control to make it less red, or you could just use Levels or Brightness/Contrast to make it less intense.

I might even try experimenting with cutting it out and making it smaller and placing it elsewhere in the photo.

LOL, thanks for your opinions CG and MB. It's hard to know what to do, but it's kind of too bright red to me. I think if the dinghy had been white, I wouldn't have noticed it. But I was angry at the dinghy already when I took the picture, LOL. And we were there so early (like 7.30) just to be alone  .

Well, I have to see what I can do. Thanks for the tips Margo. You are so welcome to take the photo and play with it and see what you can do. The only thing I have done is an autocorrect of the colors, reduce the size and autosharpen it.

LOL at Maggy!!! So funny that you're making that darned dinghy disappear now, and wished you could have, when you took the photo!
I like the dinghy sometimes, when I look at the photo, but it does detract from the natural beauty of the place. If it was a painting in a room with red accents, it might be just perfect!

I really like the red dinghy in the photo. I think it actually makes the photo totally Pop because most Caribbean photos are sailboats in gorgeous blue water but you rarely see a red dinghy in the mix.

I like the dinghy. It gives a "pop" to the picture.

I agree with Brenda and Connie. The red dinghy makes the photo interesting.

Haha, now I'm even more confused :?

Maybe I will have two photos, one with the dinghy and one without  . That is if I find out how to remove it.

Thanks again for your "votes" !

If it was me I would make a copy of the picture, take the dinghy out in one of them and keep both pictures! Are you still on flickr? There is a group called red rule I think, and you post pictures with red in them. I would post the one with the dinghy on there. :D

That's a good idea and I will do that.

I have changed from Flickr to Smugmug but I do have Photoshop, so I guess I can remove it with that program. I shall just find out how to do it.
