Day 11: Bye Lameshur Cottage, Bye Coral Bay, Bye Ruth....

Post by flip-flop »

Day 11: Bye Lameshur Cottage, Bye Coral Bay, Bye Ruth, Bye Cruz Bay, Bye Bye Bye

Wait, we have to go home.

No one is happy about this.

No one!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5663074280/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5105/566 ... 75699e.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt=""></a>

Our time was over. We had a 4pm flight out so we had time to sleep in and relax a bit before heading out. We needed to be out of the house by 10 am, so I packed a few last minute things, we ate breakfast, started a load of laundry (towels and what not), and loaded up the car.

We said goodbye to the adorable little Lameshur Cottage and took our last leisurely drive down the beautiful North Shore Road.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/4457344428/" title="stj 098 by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/445 ... 0300a4.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="stj 098"></a>

We hit deli grotto for lunch. I always forget how HUGE their sandwiches are. We could have easily split one, but instead I had an Italian and the hubby had a tuna on croissant. We shopped a little bit. We'd also gotten a late car return from Conrad's, but soon our time was running out so we headed off to gas up the Jeep.

Returning the jeep always makes it seem so final! Bye my little workhorse!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662321844/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5146/566 ... b21903.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt=""></a>

Next on the list, run into Connections to print off our boarding passes, having checked in via iphone the night before. $4 and about 4 minutes later we were set. Stopped by St. John Spice to say bye (for now) to Ruth.

Waiting for the ferry

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5663530602/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5022/566 ... e54938.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a>

I took a few minutes and a few pictures to remember my happy place until next time.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662963307/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5069/566 ... a7b55b.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt=""></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662963547/" title="Bye St. John by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5070/566 ... 756315.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Bye St. John"></a>

Another absolutely perfect blue sky day

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5663074648/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5266/566 ... 7c8506.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a>

So not ready to say goodbye

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662507267/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5062/566 ... b45311.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt=""></a>

The SADDEST view in the world

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5663075020/" title="Untitled by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5022/566 ... 4eb417.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a>

Say it ain't so ...

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662507689/" title="Homeward Bound...boo. by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5189/566 ... dc63f0.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Homeward Bound...boo."></a>

We took the noon ferry and were at the airport by 1:10. Seamless and easy. Customs was a breeze. We were in line behind some folks who had just adopted a pup from the ACC. He was so cute. The kids were fascinated!

We had time to kill so Mr. Flip-Flop hit the duty free alcohol store and stocked us up - including all I would need to recreate the Dreamsickle (oj, vanilla rum and citrus rum) at home. (I am sad to report it is just not the same without the Skinny Leg's ambiance and most importantly a fat, juicy blue burger).

I had picked up a snack to go at Deli Grotto --- my 2nd favorite to the crack bar is this chocolate and peanut butter delight. SO GOOD. We split it 3 ways and were ill when we finished. So worth it!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662964223/" title="Peanut butter chocolate bar from Deli Grotto by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5106/566 ... 10e062.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Peanut butter chocolate bar from Deli Grotto"></a>

After every bite, he'd say "mmmmmmmmm.....more mama!"

There was a brief power outage at the airport, but nothing that would delay our flight. Our flight out departed just on time and before we knew it we were in Miami. Somehow when I wasn't looking Belly charmed the flight attendant out if a snack pack! That boy has mad skills!

In Miami we had time for a bite to eat and time to kill again, so the kids played on our phones and with their goodies from Easter.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5662964331/" title="waiting in MIA by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5305/566 ... f881e3.jpg" width="454" height="500" alt="waiting in MIA"></a>

My weary little traveler

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flipflopmom/5663532340/" title="Tired boy by flip-flop, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5146/566 ... 8e2221.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Tired boy"></a>

We arrived in DC at midnight. The only unplanned mini crisis was that Belly Flop fell asleep on the flight. That was fine. However, when we arrived in DC at MIDNIGHT he was NOT about to walk. So ... our little man who had been pulling his own weight and his own bag now needed to be carried and also we had to figure out how to move his bag with less hands. We managed, though I am sure we looked like a hot mess!

Until next time....Peace, Love and Beaches....the Flip-Flops

We discovered St.John after our son was grown and on his own. We would have loved to been able to share it with him as a child (he would have brought transformers too). Your children clearly Love it. Thank you so much for sharing.

Oh and that nameless beach, I am very curious. I may PM you before we go next.

oh whoa is me, we are feeling your pain! I am so hopeful that knowing the sadness of reentry going in I will be better prepared.....ha ha....pretty sure I will sob just the same as each of you do! Oh well, can't live in the past, can't live in the future, so for now I am living my present....and that is 22 days and counting till St John....

I think you are missing creme of coconut from your Dreamcicle recipe. But you are right, it is never going to be the same as it is at Skinny Legs.

Enjoyed your trip reports.

Thanks Flip-Flop. As everyone has already said, these reports were so enjoyable. We do the same thing when we leave... we meander along the north shore and stop at almost all the beaches, just to look out one more time. It's so hard to leave, but so good to return.

ps - December 2011? We'll be there, would love to meet you and the clan!

Picture perfect report Flip and family! I have enjoyed every minute of it! And I am certainly making a note to try one of those crack bars (can I say that about STJ anymore??!) on my next trip!

June 2012 is definitely on our calendar- let us know when!

YAY! I would LOVE it if we could hang out again. This time it will be us 4 and our friends and their two kids. 4 adults, 4 kids ... one clearly babysitting age! :)

We are aiming toward the later half and hoping to stay over the 4th of July! You know I'll keep you posted.

Lovermont - If I am there in December we'll definitely have to hook up!
