Battery Question Re: Olympus 770SW

Post by kellyanna »

The battery that came with my Olympus 770SW camera is a Li-42B. I ordered 2 more on Amazon that stated it was a universal battery for this camera (thought they were Li-42B's). I received two Li-40B batteries. Olympus technical assistance is not open on the weekend, and I'll try to call them tomorrow. This may be a long shot to ask, but before I take them out of the package, does anyone know if these will work. I'll let you know what I found out from Olympus. May take me a couple of days to respond, because lil' kellyanna and I are going on a road trip. Thank you!

Sorry, for taking up space! On bottom of page 72 of the instruction manual, the Li-40B is listed (I guess it means it' s ok to use) It reads "Olympus lithium Ion Battery Li-42B and Li-40B". I'll still double check with Olympus, but I think I answered the question.

YOu are doing the right thing in getting a back up battery...JUST when we got to the Baths the battery went dead!!! Perfect timing!!! It was one of the main reasons I got the camera in the first place, and then I couldn't even use it!! and no one else in our group had an underwater camera!!! Live and learn. Make sure you take it with you!!! there was not much of a warning that the battery was empty!

Thanks, Suzi! I can't wait to use it there. Have been playing with it a little so I can get comfortable with the size---it's so little. I got one of those anti-glare screens. Did you have one of those for the LCD screen? Don't know if it really helps or not.

KA- I didn't know there was a thing such as an anti-glare screen!!! You DEF need one! that was my biggest complaint about the camera! On a bright sunny day, I could not see anything on the screen and underwater it was worse- like looking at a black screen! Can't wait to read what you think- I thought the buttons were miniscule

the need for a view finder is the reason I got the camera I got instead of one step up. the other had a 3" LCD screen but no viewfinder for those bright days. I will have to look into the anti glare screen!

The housing for my camera is larger and the buttons are very easy to use so that will be nice too.

Yea Cat- If I had to do it all over again, I would go for the camera with a viewfinder or get underwater housing for my canon

One of these really smart forum guys or gals recommended a couple earlier on a thread. I would had never thought to get one. Two were mentioned.
http://www.boxwave.com/products/clearto ... 0_2593.htm

The other one is
www.shieldzone.com (I haven't seen where this one is anti-glare) but it may be.

I have both to try. The boxwave clear touch screen protector is less than $7.

Sounds like my luggage will be busting at the seams with all of this stuff I've got to have.

Wanted to follow-up regarding my battery question. I talked to Clinton at Olympus technical support this morning and he said the Li-40B was fine to use as a replacement battery for the Stylus 770SW. So as a recap, the Li-42B or the Li-40B are fine to use.

I'm sorry that I didn't see this thread earlier. i was curious about the difference between the li-40b and the li-42b. The Olympus site doesn't show specs, but I was able to find specs on the buy.com web site.

The LI-42B capacity is 1090mAh where the LI-40B capactiy is 660mAh. Basically, this means that the LI-42B will last almost twice as long as the LI-40B. If you can exchange the LI-40B batteries without addition restocking fees, I would do it. It may be too late, however. Sorry. If you can't do the exchange the LI-40B will work.

Ron, I figured the Li-40B wouldn't last as long, but I have 2 "just in case" my Li-42B is gone. They weren't very expensive so hopefully these 3 batteries altogether will work for this trip.

Thanks!
