Much needed rain finally?

Post by Marcia (Mrs. Pete) »

Looks like there have been a few sprinkles in the islands today. So hope that the much needed rains continue; but, mostly at night so that all of our friends visiting these next couple of weeks have decent beach weather.

Some heavy rains called for there the next few days. Through Tuesday I thought.

The NWS has issued severe flash flooding warnings effective through Tues 4 AM ----- 5" of rain or more is expected across the VI area as a low pressure trough crosses starting Sun evening - heavy torrential rains here often produce deep ponding on some of our roads - mudslides and rocks in the roadways - overflowing ghuts and erosion - interior water intrusion if the house gutters or drains become clogged.
It is easy to access local radar on sites like wunderground.com or weathercarib.com and watch any moisture and direction since there are zoom and motion functions - satellite imagery will give a longer term view as well.
If the cistern overflows -- !!! -- take long showers - do all the laundry - move all the plants outside - wash the cars - scrub the decks - use the powerwasher at will - so clean out the gutters and revel!
The Reef Bay waterfall should be spectacular Wed and Thurs.

It may still get here, but after a nice half inch to an inch late yesterday, this morning is mostly sunny. I have rarely seen torrential rain here after it was predicted so strongly, and rarely have they predicted any rainfall accurately.

Thanks for the updates gents. We enjoyed a big rain and a biblical mosquito swarm on our last May visit. No repeats!! We're up on Ajax Peak again, but not at Callaloo this time, so we'll have screens at least.

Cheers, RickG

It is a sunny beautiful day here in the Virgin Is. - most of the rainy weather has been west of us so far - San Juan recorded rainfall yesterday that broke a 60 year daily record.
The forecast remains watchful but it is true that the prediction of our local weather is often inaccurate and the meteorologists keep their jobs - right or wrong.

We're there late in the month and I have to say I'm hoping the rain forecasts are wrong. Would love to NOT have what one member said they had last May - big rain and biblical mosquitos. Its our first time to St. John and would really like a sunset ceremony on the beach, not a wash out. Fingers crossed and double crossed.

I have found NOAA's weather forecast to be one of the most detailed and accurate...though all of them usually off base!! 8)
