Salomon for old folks

Post by nancyr84 »

Heading to St John for trip 5 in 41 days!!! Our last trip we finally made it to Salomon but to tell the truth the steep down hill trail was hard on my bones. Would the lind point trail although longer be an easier walk. Distance is not as much of an issue. We walked to Honeymoon from Caneel once and that was a easy walk , can you continue on from there? I am so excited to be coming back !!!

We took the Lind point trail the 1st time...and I decided we were walking out to Caneel and finding a taxi so we didnt have to go back up the hill, going down was a pain..I cant imagine going up would have been any easier.. However, If Im thinking right..the Lind point trail and the walk from caneel meet and then you continue on to solomon on the same trail...either way you go..you would have the steep walk...someone correct me if Im wrong..
Each time we are sure to go to this beach...and I think its much easier to get there from Caneel..This time, we plan on snorkeling from Honeymoon over..:)my mother who is 74 made the hike with us...but she is an acitve 74 yr old (still works 40 or so hrs each week) and she made it but it was tiring on her... she doesnt swim or we would have snorkeled that time instead of the trail

I didn't realize the trail after honeymoon got a little messier, and unfortunately I wore poor-fitting flip-flops. After nearly twisting my ankle I encouraged my friends to proceed without me. While they were gone I went for a snorkel. Before I knew it I was on the other side of the point where I could see the beautiful salomon. We snorkeled on the salomon side of the point for a while and then enjoyed its beach before heading back to honeymoon. I thought it was a nice bit of luck for me. I believe I would take that approach again as I have weak ankles. Unfortunately, with that approach my stay on such a beautiful beach is brief.

How far is the trail from Honeymoon to Saloman? Is it marked clearly?

It's a flat walk from Caneel Bay. You can pay to park there and get an easier time of it. The trail between Honeymoon and Salomon is short, rocky and a bit washed out. Take your time and you should be okay.
