It was a Bushwacker, which is sort of a chocolate drink. It was DELICIOUS and not green! That is the Beach bar logo, it was so cute.

Thanks for the photo advice Matt! I'm fairly technically competent, but I was really having trouble.

What a GREAT report! Can't wait to look at the pics. I second going in summer. We have gone in June, August and February. Crowds are much smaller (and so are the prices!) in summer. We're from TX, too so the heat is not a factor. Although we will continue to go in Feb to run 8 Tuff Miles. If you're a runner and ever have the chance, you should check it out- awesome race!

Glad you guys had a great trip!

I was talking about training for that race just about the whole trip. I am a runner (well, sort of, I'm old and I have a chronic hamstring problem...), but those hills looked pretty scary. What percent of the entrants actually run the whole thing would you say?

Not sure of the percentage that run the whole thing but I can tell you I am NOT one of them! I have to walk a lot of the first 5.5 (mostly) uphill, but with some running in the middle and all the way down, I manage to finish under 2 hours. The race has the entire spectrum of serious (and fast) runners all the way to those that walk the entire thing. It's for everybody! This year the youngest finisher was 5 and the oldest was, I think 85!!

If you love the island, and I can tell you do, there is nothing better than traveling most of the length of the island on foot- such an amazing feeling- walking or running.

I think there may be a larg(ish) group of forumites doing the run next year, and hopefully for multiple years after that... join us sometime!

Thanks for the trip report. We too are heading down one week from today for our first trip to STJ. Loved your 'If I had to do it again' section. We have been debating back and forth on whether or not to take some food down with us to save some money, but as my husband said, 'It's vacation......I don't want to be worried about packing food.' I have to agree. So, though it may turn out to be one of my 'If I had to do it agains', we are going to go without transporting food. We will be celebrating our 25th and just want to go with the flow......no worries! I loved your restaurant reviews too. Am so looking forward to the whole experience. PS-We too are not that much into snorkeling. I know that's awful to say when travelling to such a wonderful snorkeling destination. I just wanted you to know you are not alone in that regard. :)
