Blender?

Question.....{I may know the answer to this.}Can I take a small personal blender with me on the plane?I almost bought one over the week-end at Walmart.My 15 year old daught stopped me and said "dad they might take this from you before you board,it's the blades dad,the blades!"So is she right? probably going to depend on the TSA screener. I would imagine that if you have to pass through an xray twice (there and back) you will most likely have it taken at one of the airports.

Any villa we have rented has had a blender.

As someone said on one of the threads (can't remember who...sorry), normally you rent a blender on St. John and a villa comes with it.

Try this, buy a cheap blender at Wal-Mart. Ship it down to Connections in a USPS Flat Rate Box. Use it while you are there, then donate it to someone who lives on island. Pia or Ruth need a spare? The locals do so much to inform and help the rest of us, it would be a nice gesture to give something back.

If you are checking a bag, you will be ok. Otherwise, I think you might have an issue bringing it on the plane. I have seen them discard some strange items.

I haven't stayed in a tent at Maho, but always assumed they didn't have outlets. I know there are no outlets in the tents at Concordia. Something you might want to confirm. I do know that folks send boxes directly to Maho, so you could bypass Connections and their Hold fee if you do send it ahead.

What type of portable blender are you talking about? We always bring a stick or immersion blender with us to STJ in our check in bag, we picked up a little Braun for this. OMG, this all started about 6 years ago, we had a blender disaster at the villa. Arrived Sat afternoon, there are two blenders on the counter. We mix up the drinks in the blender pitcher that evening, turn the first one on and it doesn't move. Then we say, ok, pour the mix into the second blender. It turns on, but the metal is stripped where the blade connects to the motor, so the blade doesn't turn. Of course CV office is closed until Monday, no one sells blenders on island. So Monday we go to CV and they have like 50 blenders in the back room (common issue???). We bring one home, mix up the drink in the pitcher, turn it on and while its turning the plastic top falls into the blender and gets crunched into 500 pieces amongst our drink! The drive on this one gets stripped in this accident, so now we know how the 2nd one got screwed up, right? Next day we went back to CV and got another one, CV was very gracious about it. The 4th blender made it through the week, it took until Tuesday evening to blend our own drinks!

I don't think you'll have a problem with security if you bring an immersion blender, as the blades aren't exposed at the bottom, you couldn't kill anything with it.

I did laugh at the idea of a blender at Maho. Why not?!... the tents are pretty close together, bet your neighbors come to play!

By the way, I would expect that TSA would have little to say about the blender.

They do sell blenders at the hardware store in the Marketplace. I know from experience as I usually tear up one from over use, you know making coladas for the beach. I should just go ahead and tell the villa rep to just go ahead and have a spare in the villa I'm renting.
