Soggy Dollar Bar

Post by Hawaii »

Hi all - I decided to start a new thread on this so I would not hijack the other one that someone just posted on Jost Van Dyke. We have booked Palm Tree Charters for this July with our family. It will be our firts visit to STJ. My plan right now is to go to the Indians and Caves and then maybe visit Soggy Dollar Bar and of course the beach too! Does it get crowded in the summer? I am assuming that it is ok for families too? Our kids are 14 and 10. We are super excited for our first trip and now very excited about our boat trip too!

I've never been there in the summer, but I believe there will probably be less people, rather than more, as summer is the off-season.

It'll be fine for your kids! There's a great ring game at the Soggy Dollar where you try to hook a ring on a long string to a hook on a tree by letting it swing. Fun! It'll keep the kids occupied for a while! They'll also get to make friends with the local dogs, which is fun, too!

Have Capt. John take you to Sandy Spit...it's that perfect little tropical island everyone imagines! I've sailed past it, but never set foot on it, and Capt. John will fix that for me in May when he takes us out for the day!

We took our boys, ages 11 and 7, last June and it was perfectly fine. They played the ring game and played on the beach. Also, Captain John is very good at making sure things are "family friendly."

CassieBelle, depending on the direction you're coming from (and I think I know your itinerary), you'll pass Sandy Spit before you get to Jost...it's right at the tip of Jost. So if you get to Foxy's or the Soggy Dollar, you'd have to back-track to get to Sandy Spit.

SDB is one of my girls favorite places! They are 10 and 7 and love it there. They play the ring game, talk to Mic, write words in the sand, and do cartwheels down the beach. Your kids will love it! Summer will be less crowded, but anytime it has always seemed "family friendly" to us. Have fun!

And I agree- go to Sandy Spit if you can- beautiful!

Thanks everyone - So looks like Soggy Dollar will be a stop for our family in July. Ok - Where is Sandy Spit and what is it? Just a place to relax? And I am fine with that and even better with a drink in my hand. I am so ready for some warm weather here it has been very rainy and wet lately but Monday is going up to 85 degrees and today it is 50 maybe!!

Sandy spit is at the east end of JVD. If you pull up google earth for soggy dollar, just scan to the right (east) and there's a little island at the end, that's sandy spit. You'd want to go there before Foxy's or Soggy's. Highly recommended, beautiful spot.

We just had our first trip with Capt John to the BVIs and went to Whistling Cay followed by the Indians, Caves, jumping off the Willy T and Soggy Dollar. We had a blast and although our son is 18, he said it was the best!!! Enjoy! :D Can't wait to go back!
